James "Knute Rockne" Franklin

In re "unprepared:"

Against Kent State, coach James Franklin admitted that, “75% of the looks that we got defensively were different than what we had prepared for. So rather than just running plays, we did a lot of check-with-me because our initial plays that we had on the game plan didn't necessarily fit.’’
...
Again, Franklin admitted he didn’t see it coming. Matt Canada, Pitt’s new offensive coordinator, has something of a plain-vanilla rep.

“I think the trading and shifting was a big part,’’ Franklin said. “(It) was more than (Canada) had done in the past.’’
