How?

All of our, well, 90%, of our focus right now is on Israel prosecuting and winning this war with Islam, but the percentage focused on "How?" is climbing.

I read earlier today, I think in the Times of Israel, a mother of victim(s) saying "Where was the state?" There have been similar statements from survivors of calling the Israeli police and security bureaus and getting no answer. The thrust of these is that essentially Israel broke its contract with its people. There is an editorial in Haaretz that, falsely in my view, and certainly divisively, places the blame solely of Netanyahu.

I am no intelligence expert, I am not even intelligent, so I pay close attention to what the pro spooks say and these that I bold below--I don't remember ever reading such bafflement. I read, yesterday I think somewhere, that Hamas had a mock-up of an Israeli kibbutz that they trained to storm. Another someone I read said, "How do you drive a bulldozer near the Iron Gate?" It has all inevitably raised in my mind, and I wager in the minds of one or two others SPECULATION ALERT! THIS IS RANK SPECULATION!": Did Hamas have help inside Israel--from Israelis?

How did Israel and the U.S. miss what Hamas was planning?

“This is Israel’s 9/11. Not since 1973 has there been such a catastrophic intelligence failure in Israel. It is almost inconceivable how they missed this.” It was also unclear why U.S. intelligence agencies apparently did not see the attack coming, as well as friendly Arab states such as Egypt, Jordan, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, he said. “I am stunned.”— Marc Polymeropoulos, who worked for 26 years for the CIA, where he specialized in counterterrorism, the Middle East and South Asia.

“Israel has exquisite, world-class intelligence collection and analysis capabilities and would have a far better picture of what’s going on in its own backyard. This one falls squarely on the Israelis. I’m truly astonished for something of this magnitude to go down and for the Israelis to have no clue that this is about to happen. I’m just speechless,” said Clarke of the Soufan Center. “They have had sources inside these Palestinian groups for years.” [Do Palestinians have sources inside Israel?]— Colin Clarke, senior research fellow at the Soufan Center.

David Friedman, who was U.S. ambassador to Israel in the Trump administration, said: “In the 40 or more years that I’ve been following Israel one way or another, I’ve never seen this happen. I’ve never seen the border breached in this manner. Usually, even one person from Gaza gets close to the border, they’re intercepted and neutralized long before they can do anything. This is just something I’ve never seen before. It’s of course a large intelligence failure.”
