PhilaBoo beat the Chaparrals 133-123. Ho-hum, or boo-hoo. But Joel Embiid had a definitely not ho-hum 70 points, 52.6% of the team’s scoring. Wow.
The Bobcats won a game! That’s definitely an exciting result. And it came in π§. And it came despite Karl-Anthony Towns’ 62 points. That is about as weird a result + box score as you’ll see.
I was following the Zollner-Male Deer game and the “Pistons” led or were close. At 8:24 of the 4Q they led 98-97. The next I checked I had to do a double-take. Male Deer were up 122-113 with a minute and change left. “Same old Zollner,” to self. Male Deer ran away in the last 8 1/2 mins 25-15 in a 122-113 win. Same old Zollner.
Cle. shot 56.3% (52.6%) and never trailed in a 126-99 demolition of a decent team of Mice in the Hole. Cle. is now 4th in the East, 3 games ahead of Miami in 6th. I don’t see us catching them or improved New York (5th +2 on “Heat”), and I think we’ll be overtaken by Indiana Marymount, 7th but on some tie-breaker with an identical record, also restocked now with Pascal Siakam, once Tyrese Haliburton gets back.
Regal Boston is the best team in the Association and it’s not even close. They lead π§ by 3.5 games. Tonight they beat a good team of Fat π¨πΊ π in Dallas 119-110.
Miami has enough Erik Spoelstra always says and you’d lose your house betting against him. The captain of this old team is Bam, its best player is Jimmy, but the spark plug, the “soul”, the animating principle of this team in 2023/24 has been the 22-year old Mexican-American rookie from UCLA nicknamed John Wick or 3J. Without Jaime Jaquez Jr. we are simply old and unignitable on both ends of the floor. We’re like DeSantis, we have no clear path to the penthouse, not even to the Upper East Side that I can see.
