Another one! On 1st down at the OSU 30! 1st and 10 "Utes" at the "Buckeye" 15!
Critical pass interference call on 3rd down gives Utah new life at their own 49!...
TOUCHDOWN. 30-yard pass. OSU takes its first lead of the game! 45-38, 4:22 left.
4th down pass complete for a first down at the Utah 30...

 3rd and 8 at the Utah 43...

Pass for 11 to the Utah 45. First down...

Pass for 15. First and ten at their own 41...

1st and 10 OSU at their own 25 following the Utah punt. Ohio State is going to score on this possession...
4th and 4 at the Utah 40 and the "Utes" have to punt it away...

This game has turned...

In Utah's first play after the OSU kickoff the QB was sacked for a loss of 7 yards. The "Bucks" are comin'.

38-38...

Don't think that's gonna be the last score in regulation :). OSU has outscored "Utes" 17-3 in 2H. 10:44 left...

They've barely let up...

Utah leads OSU 38-31, 13' left to play. What a game!

 NOT a PSU game.

Holy Toledo we have a barnburner in Pasadena (send obligatory pic of sun setting over San Gabriel mountains at earliest convenience thanks). The Utah "Utahans" lead THE University of Ohio State 28-21...35-21(!) with still six and a half mins to go in the 1H! Gonna short-circuit that old scoreboard in the Rose Bowl, they are.

FT Okie State 37 Notre Dame 35!

"'Pokes" came from 28-7 down  and outscored the "Mad Irishman" 23-7 after the break to "shock" Notre Dame. Not a good start for whatever's-his-name, ND's head coach. Jack Swarbrick needs to watch this very carefully in 2022. Promoting an assistant who has never been a head coach before is something that frequently does not work out.

Okie State 34 ND 28, 9:07 4Q

Oklahoma State has outscored Notre Dame 20-0 in the second half. What does that speak to? An assistant promoted to the head man in his first game on the job.
Kentucky just scored a TD to go ahead of Iowa 20-17 with 1:48 to play. If that score doesn't change the result will not be updated here.

That's extremely damning. Fine, excuse 2020 as the COVID season. What about this season? They were 5-0 and ranked #4 in the country! They finished 7-6 after going 2-6 in the second half of the season. They had no running game, couldn't kick the football, and Sean Clifford regressed. They didn't have the players! How does that happen with arch-recruiter James Franklin? For 2022 they will have the sixth-best recruiting class coming in. That's a lot of talent and may be the magic elixir. But did Franklin's recruiting classes four and five years ago translate into a 7-6 season in 2021? I don't think so. Franklin has never been a good preparation coach, nor a good in-game coach. And, James Franklin decompensated before the Michigan game, not knowing where he was or who he was playing next. It was the most alarming thing I had seen in a college professor of pigskin since Woody Hayes punched a Clemson player. I sincerely thought he needed to be forced to step down, or forced to take a leave of absence.

You get the sense that it has all grown stale in State College. Franklin has seemed resigned to me for a few years, resigned that he will never win another B1G title playing in the same division as Michigan and Ohio State. There is some foul air swirling around this program.

In an exchange of New Year’s greetings with the loved one of a long-ago client:

Wow. Congratulations šŸ¾ on the retirement. I’m glad you doing great. You know I saw you one time and one time only but the impression you made on me is unforgettable. You were like the sunshine in all that darkness. I will never forget you.

FT Arsenal 1 Manchester City 2

A fine showing by the Kroenkes in London against a team that humiliated them earlier in the campaign in Manchester. Arsenal actually took the lead in the 31st minute. After the break Riyad Mahrez converted a PK to level. Arsenal played with ten men from the 59th min forward after a red card to Gabriel. It was not until 90+3 that City were able to break through and get all three points. Arsenal are back in the Champions League places in fourth after a stuttering start.

Bad year in the world, and the U.S.A., no? Started off bad, ended bad. Personally, with the exception of a couple degrees of separation bad times, my 2021 was fine: happy, retired, all dem content things. Hope yours was too. No man is an island through, try though I did. Can't escape what's going on around you, whether the country or the world. Bad year for those.
