I could spend the rest of my healthy days traveling the NBA circuit like some did the traveling circus in byegone days. The game is endlessly fascinating to me. I would rather fly to Sacramento to see the "Kings" vs the "Pelicans" in person than drive up to Joe Robbie stadium to see the Super Bowl. The NBA is without doubt my favorite sport.

Brunson 2, 100-104, :41.3, Nurse Nick FTO
Nine point lead! Man, in this game, that's put the fat lady up time.
It's mostly all Maxey, 24 points. Embiid is 3/12. Brown has stepped it up: 19 pts, 7/13 (2/3).
Brunson is having a poor shooting game, 5/14.
Late Simons, Brown treys give Phila. rare lead, 80-76 end 3Q
They've only led for 32% of game. That was a superb quarter for Phila., 29-18, in a boring game. This is an important game for Phila. This is a brand new team and the basketball and sporting world are curious if this super-team is going to work. For Mamdani City this is the cliche of "just one game of 82". They're the defending champs.
"As Joel goes, so will the Sixers". Remember that from this summer?
Well, so far, Embiid has 10 pts on 3/10 (1/4) in 25'.
NYC 63-62, 7:55 3Q, "Knicks" another FTO
HT 58-54. Every time I checked the score, NYC was leading, but the stats say 76ers led 38% of the time.
"Knicks" are actually shooting poorer than 76ers.
"Knicks" won the first quarter by 2, on rebounding.
"Knicks" won the second quarter by 2, on rebounding. 27-19 at halftime.
At the end of one quarter in Peoples Square Garden, the World Champeens lead Phila. 25-23
Electric Maxey leads all scorers with 8, Jalen Brunson leads the Soshis with 5. The little diff. there is so far is on the glass, "Knicks" 15-9.
Mamdani City 19 Phila. 20, 2:32 1Q, Mamdani Full Socialist Meeting
My God that Philadelphia lineup is breathtaking.
We're early on, it's Mamdani City 10 76'ers 12
Let's see who the starters are:
LeBron James
Joel Embiid
Jaylen Brown
Tyrese Maxey
VJ Edgecombe
They got the full deck!
OG Anunoby
Karl-Anthony Towns
Josh Hart
Mikal Bridges
Jalen Brunson
By far the most inn-teresting opening night game...
...is tonight at 7:30, Phila. at the World Champs, Mamdani City. Sixers with Joel, Jaylen, LeBron--who is living in Mamdani City and helicoptering to and from Philly!--Electric Maxey and VJ Edgecombe who, come to think of him, is out for awhile.
Can't wait for this one!!!!!!
Joe Mazz, COTY Joe Mazz, can I ask you a question?
Why the fuck did you have Jayson Tatum chucking up 23 times, bricking SEVENTEEN (0/7 range) in 38' for a little peepy 13 points when you had PGJR-13 scorching the cords, 12/21 (7/12), 38 points in 31'?
You just wasted PEAK PGJR-13 in his first game with you and lost the first game of the season, you fucking mutton head.
Okay, I was wrong...
PGJR played the 3Q up until 5:33 and Beans +14 when he came out for Peyton Pritchard Picked a Peck of Pickled Peppers. Z made their run with Pickled Peppers in.
Z on a mini-run, 24-20, this Q...
I don't understand why coaches are so rigid with their rotations. Beans led by 22 with their second unit in. Then I saw PGJR-13 check back in. Why? I know he's having a great game. WHY? Why not let the second unit go until the other team starts coming back on you. You put him and the others back in at the peak, they're cold.
Beans Cranking the Zollner Pistons at HT 58-45
Guess who's game high-scorer? Paul George John Ringo.
Donut has 3 pts on 1/4 (1/4) for Z.
And today at 3 pm those same Zollner Pistons kick off the new season in the Malice Palace against Beans.
In other action...

No-Trey Klay
The "Heat's" great shooting hope Klay Thompson has had an ominous pre-season for a Great Hope. 0-fer 7 from field, 0-fer 6 from deep Friday night. Never could play defense either. John Hollinger, 40-42?

NYTThis is why I'm City till I die
"MAN CITY FAN"
My first interest in soccer was the Miami "Fusion". First soccer match I ever attended was a "Fusion" game at old Lockhart Stadium--in Fort Lauderdale.
I remember sitting there that first match watching and thinking, "I like this", I liked soccer.
I got SO into the "Fusion". Had a flag made; bought a shirt (that I still have); went to a lot of games; got on the message board after every match.
The most constant, most prolific, most effusive "Fusion" fan on the message board was a guy who went by the handle "MAN CITY FAN"
I asked MAN CITY FAN once, "Why are you such a "Fusion" fan?" It was because a former Man City player, Ian-something, I think, was now playing for the "Fusion". :o Now THAT was loyalty!
The "Fusion" folded, pardon me, was "contracted" in MLS-speak, after the ONE season that I became such a fan.
But I had been bitten by the soccer bug. Now what am I going to do? It was out of the question that I would adopt one of the "Fusion's" former opponents as the object of my passion. I also wasn't going to become a fan of a foreign language club, I never took to other languages, can't speak any other. I had to have an English speaking club with English-speaking fans so I looked across the pond to the English pyramid.
I couldn't do League One or League Two. Miami "Fusion" matches were NEVER televised and I saw that if you weren't in the English Premier League you didn't exist in media coverage, especially not here in the colonies.
I had a boyhood memory of Nottingham Forest, so romantic a name. They were in the Championship then. I had even attended a "Fusion"-Forest friendly. Forest then? I researched their history and they had been a big club, but alas, my boyhood memory was a false one. The name Nottingham Forest had stuck in my mind but just from fairy tales, not soccer. And they were not on the media radar. It would be difficult and lonely to follow even a club stuck in the Championship.
Thus, to the greatest of club soccer leagues and an English-speaking one, the EPL, I went.
I developed a criterion: I wanted to root for an underdog. Like underdogs. Despise frontrunning fans. I would not become a fan of one of the "Big Four", Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea. I looked at Tottenham, that queer little bird atop the soccer ball was different...It didn't take.
My people are from the Northeast. The Tyneside region. Coal miners. Mine were coal miners there and emigrated to become...coal miners here.
There were three EPL clubs in Tyneside, Newcastle United, Sunderland, and Middlesbrough. Could I conjure up a fandom that would stick for one of those clubs? I immediately nixed Middlesbrough, it sounded too pedestrian, too sensible brown middle class and stuck there. Those were the days of Alan Shearer at Newcastle and while they were not a historical "Big Four" club they were in the top four (as I recall) of the EPL table at the time. By no stretch were Newcastle an underdog, they would be too frontrunning for me. Plus I didn't like the striped prison shirtings unis.
I tried out Sunderland in my mind. The "Stadium of Light". Wow! Didn't like the red and white striped shirts but they weren't Big Four...Sunderland didn't take, either.
And then I remembered MAN CITY FAN. I looked at the Premier League table. Not there. Rats. I looked at the Championship. There they were, sitting atop too!, which meant that the next season, my first without the "Fusion", they would be in the EPL. I loved their simple, unique sky blue color, I loved their underdog status. Loved everything about them.
It was because of MAN CITY FAN that I became a Man City fan.
BOY, were they underdogs!
Division Two
Maine Road "Temple of Doom"
"The Manchester Revolution"
Former (and future) Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, "Frank" to local fans, bought the club. 🎵We're in the money/ We're in the money🎵 Frank sent us on our way, and then went away, back to Thailand. BUT Frank knew billionaires all over the world and sold the club to Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates. The Manchester Revolution kicked into overdrive.I noticed that City fans were different. We were ecstatic, we were grateful, we couldn't believe we were "really here". We cheered whenever Frank appeared at Maine Road, we hung banners and chanted hosannas to Sheikh Mansour. We were happy.
We booed the Champions League anthem every time it was played. They threatened us. We booed more.😂
The Poznan
We played Lech Poznan one time in the Champs League, maybe Europa, in Manchester. Polish club, Lech Poznan. They cheered their teams' goals by turning their backs to the pitch, putting their arms around their mates' shoulders, and jumping up and down in place.City fans adopted The Poznan. 😂
You gotta love fans like that.
The Bananas
Now the bananas. I don't know what it's about, supposedly it goes back to the late '90's but I don't know why. But now it has become a sign of our happy defiance of the Premier League's guilty verdicts (and we are guilty). Try as you might, you are not going to shake City fans' loyalty and joy in their club.
😂👏In all of these ways City fans were, and still are, different from fans of Manchester United, of Arsenal, of Liverpool, the red-entitled-traditional-elite teams of English football. The red elites always have been, and are today even more so, bitter toward Manchester City. We broke up their Firm. They were "cheated" out of titles and lucre that were "rightfully" theirs. They direct their ire at anything and anybody that they feel have wrongfully displaced them.
United fans opposed Glazer family ownership from day one; they oppose it to this day with everything from banners to boycotts, to threats to establish a new green-and-gold club, to everything short of violence. I saw, just within the last couple of weeks, a huge banner inside Old Trafford castigating ownership for "the way you treat us". The "Temple of Dreams" has become a temple of nightmarish negativity. I could never, ever be a fan of a club with fans of such bitterness, of such relentless negativity as those.
Arsenal fans, it was always whining and bitching--at having finished in the top four, or the top three, or runners-up! Always complaining. Piers Morgan and others screamed "WENGER OUT!" Never happy. "The balls were different"-Mikel Arteta, current manager. When Arsenal won the EPL last season, there was joy of course among their fans, but it was more than a little tinged with relief, relief that they had "finally" got what they "deserved" all along and had been denied for...twenty years.😂 It wasn't good enough being a member of the "Big Four"; it wasn't good enough going to the Champions League every year. They wanted it all and they wanted it every year. Arsenal's stadium is so joyless that it is nicknamed "The Highbury Library". Arsenal fans' title "celebrations" were as much an avoidance of "pain"--which isn't joy.
Not us. Not City fans. Joy lives here. Joy lived in Maine Road; it lives in Etihad Stadium.
We ought to hold a symbolic ceremony for the grumpy Reds. Have life-size, blow-up Sir Alex Ferguson dolls, blow-up Piers Morgan dolls, blow-up Brendan Rogers dolls. Have real City fans on the platform, too. Here, poor wittle, bitter Unitard, here Arsie, here Slaverpool, here are your trophies! 🤭
Because they will never have our joy.
I found my soccer club, I found my people in Manchester City.

You can't spell SCUM without UM! Miami went for it on 4th and 2 at FSU 42 (TOTALLY defensible decision)...
...but threw incomplete. Four plays and 58 yards later and it's Miami (3) -21 14 FSU 21, 4:09 3Q.
Oh fuck me up the ass
I finished the last post and went back to ESPN and just as I did Lewisville scored on a 46-yard TD pass with :28 left in the half in the Carrier Dome. 23-28.
Man, there is so much schaden today I can't find much freude
There's too much non-football stuff in college football today.
Take Maryland-Rutgers. Please. Two programs, whole athletic departments, that are in financial straits, RUT mucho more than UMD. And both football teams suck and they have sucky coaches. I can't take any joy from the Fire Bowl.
Something's wrong with college football when the villain at Penn State is the...athletic director. I can't take pleasure in PSU's stumbling bumbles when a first year head coach is doing his best under not good circumstances. I would have taken some small pleasure if loathsome, cheating mishigas had lost.
I don't feel freude that Indiana. Wouldn't have felt it if Ohio had.
Bee Why? Ew (8) leads Notre Dame du Lac (2) 14-10 in the Beehive, 2' left 1H. I like the "Lakers". Don't particularly want them to lose but what a dub for the "Cougars" this would be.
Rocky Top beat Alabama. Meh.
I feel bad for the Dookies who lost today at home to arch-rivals Apple Chills.
I can do self-schadenfreude. I do do self-schadenfreude. But man, the way my Beloveds lost last week and this, trying one QB replacement then another for Mason Heintschel, no, I can't make fun of my fandom under those circumstances.
Syracuse, I don't know if they won or lost but they were behind, is another football basket case that according to the president and AD has a shelf life of three years. Talk about QB probs: They lose their starter who was just coming off a year-long injury and then I think they are down to their fourth option. I think no.s two and three also got hurt. I've never heard of anything like that.
I have one shot at schadenfreude left. Miami (3) and Eff Esse Ew are tied at 14 at HT. I verily can't stand the "Hurricanes". They were 21-point favorites. GO SEMIHOLES!
"Man City fans' inflatable banana craze sweeps defiant Etihad"😁👏👏
The stands were awash with yellow throughout Saturday's clash as the revival of a craze from the 1980s and '90s gathered momentum.

Personally, I missed that craze lol.

"A war took place"; "people fled"; "harsh tactics"
"What I acknowledge is a war took place [in 1948] and during said war people fled because war does this and Israel used harsh tactics"
...
"The israelis don’t acknowledge that some harsh tactics were used to get Palestinians to leave during the war."
-Texts from "But I am Jewish"
He will not even "acknowledge" that Israel's War of Independence was Israel's war.😂. He can't even go that far! All that B.I.A.J. will "acknowledge" is that "a war took place." A war meteor hit the Middle East in 1948. An outbreak of war measles occurred. A series of unfortunate events came and boom! 10k-15k Palestinians are killed and 750,000 displaced--by Jewish Zionists...in the war that they started to establish their Zionist state!🤦♂️
"People fled"--all you saw in the Mid East in '48 was assholes and elbows (hmm, and 10k-15k bodies), 750,000 sets of Palestinian assholes and elbows...but B.I.A.J. doesn't say "Palestinians", he says "people". Palestinians fled, Zionists fled (in pursuit of the 'stinians), Christians must have fled, fucking Mormons, I don't know, it was chaos as people fled escaping the War Measles.
Nobody in particular caused this mass fleeing!, don't go blaming!, just "people fled because war does this".🤣 "Look Harris, maybe you don't know this because you're not Jewish, but when the War Measles starts everybody fucking runs. It's just what the War Measles do to the body, you fucking stupid, unclean Presbyterian."
So Israel's War of Independence just happened, nobody started it, I'm Jewish, you're not, I'm okay, you're an asshole, "people" fled "because that's what war does," maybe slightly more Palestinians than Jews because we Jews aren't real athletic and don't run too good but you ought to see those little brown Muslim Palestinians go hoo doggie.
Now we come to the BEEG concession B.I.A.J uses to reestablish his reasonableness and get him released from the mental hospital. Wait for it! DRUMROLL...
"Israel used harsh tactics."
"Some harsh tactics were used."
Sowy!😆
Okay, I will stop making fun of my friend--who may not be my friend any longer--I will use my reasonableness diagnostic test, turn his statements around. Let's say I say to B.I.A.J.,

This is a problem
"But I am Jewish and am gonna see certain things differently than you."
Solely because he is Jewish and I am not. We can look at the same thing, a car; he will see a Mercedes with Nazi flags flying from the front bumpers, I will see a Chevy hatchback.
He told me once that there is a Jewish joke in New York City. A 10-year old boy comes home after watching the "Yankees" play. "Dad! I saw Micky Mantle hit three home runs!" Dad: "And how is that good for Israel?'
It is single-minded and that mind is closed. The most important issue to the Jewish father in that joke, the only issue, and it could have been on any subject, is how does that, a positive, unrelated event, or it could have been negative, the touchstone of the joke is the only thing that matters is Israel.
"We cannot agree on anything on this topic."
I have to bold that: "We cannot agree on anything on this topic." Anything that I say goes into one ear and out the other with mediation. His mind is closed. We will never agree; we "cannot" agree; "on ANYTHING"; "on this topic".
"It's not something we are able to discuss."
Can't even "discuss."
So why did we? When the discussion is doomed to result in disagreement, when he knows from the outset that it is moot, because "I am Jewish" (and I am not), why begin? I'm 71 years old. He knows that. I loathe wasting the time I have left. He knows that. So, why doe he waste my time? And his? Say it at the outset, when those sensitive chords in the human art are touched. Just tell me at the outset when a topic causes these chords to vibrate in a hum that causes him an epileptic attack, "Harris, let's not both waste our time, I'm Jewish, you're not, end of discussion"?
Turn it around:
Him: "I like olives." Me: "That's because you're Jewish."
Him: "I don't like Mercedes." Me: "That's because you're Jewish."
Him: "I think Man City's guilty." Me: "That's because you're Jewish."
Him: "I'm a Democrat." Me: "That's because you're Jewish."
If I responded "That's because you're Jewish" to every topic of discussion that however tenuously and unintentionally touches on Israel or Jewish identity, he--and any Jew--would be insulted. I would be guilty of making an antisemitic presumption. "What, you just assume 'because I'm Jewish', that I 'am gonna see certain things differently than you'?! Harris, I thought I knew you better than that, you antisemite." Well, yes I do. Because those are your words, bunko.
That's a problem.
"I am Jewish and am gonna see things differently than you."
"You will never be Chinese."
"A communist today can be a capitalist tomorrow, but an Armenian can never be a Turk."
"I am Jewish" (and you're not). We cannot agree on anything on this topic."
The text discussion started pleasantly enough. My friend was in Spain (and I was not). The distinctive Moorish architecture was beautiful. He liked the country.
"You just like it because it was ruled by Muslims", I joked (after looking it up because I wasn't sure).
"Actually, I'm surprised that Muslims and Jews get along so well here," him.
"Did Jews and Muslims, and Christians for that matter, get along in pre-Mandate Palestine?" I asked insouciantly, not knowing that either.
"I think they pretty much did until the Arabs nakba'd the Jews."
"The 'stinians (my shorthand for Palestinians) kicked the Jews out? I thought it was the other way around, that half of the Arab population was displaced in the 'catastrophe' (had not committed "nakba" to memory).
"Let me do some reading because I'm not sure." Him.
"Okay, that's fair enough. Me too."
I then looked up "palestinian catastrophe". Read the first few paragraphs of the lengthy Wikipedia entry, copied and pasted and sent to him along with the Wikipedia page.
"I don't think Wikipedia can be 100% trusted on this." Him.
Which was true enough. Wikipedia cannot be 100% trusted. But it's a darn good starting point. I went back to the Wiki entry and checked if there was a warning or whatever, an advisory, sometimes they will put at the top something like "this entry needs verification or sources." There was none.
He then sent me his own quick and dirty research. From "Friends of Israel".
"You caution me not to rely on Wikipedia on this and your counter comes from Friends of Israel?" Me, irritated.
"A British general is a pretty good source, no?" Him.
Wikipedia's entry is supported by 230 footnotes, and a further "Bibliography" of hundreds (I didn't count) subcategorized into "Books", "Book chapters", "Articles", and "Further Reading".
"The truth is somewhere between the two sides". Him.
What "two sides"? I thought but didn't write. I cite Wikipedia, not "Friends of Palestine", he cites "Friends of Israel.
"Wikipedia brushes over the Arab expulsion of Palestinians", he replied, changing the subject from his initial, Arab expulsion of Jews.
I was taken aback by the turn that this convo had taken. My brain was frying with his Orwellian propaganda, my nerves were fraying, my ears were ringing. I was shaken. I couldn't reason with him, my friend of over thirty years, on this subject, on any subject touching however remotely on Israel. I could have read everything in Wiki's bibliography, it wouldn't have mattered.
"Enough for today". Me. I tried to end it. Too much unexpected on a relaxed afternoon that began pleasantly with him on vacation.
He continued sending me stuff.
"I'm not reading!" Me.
"But I am Jewish and am gonna see certain things differently than you. We cannot agree on anything on this topic. It's not something we are able to discuss."
"On an unrelated note trying to follow football on a scroll as you do...it sucks." Him.

Last night, a blue wave of happiness washed over me...
Who was I kidding? Myself. The U.S. has not been the same since the Catastrophe.
I'll give a domestics relation analogy.
Immediately following a period of great tranquility and happiness a spouse suddenly leaves the other and their children. They're gone four years.
Four years later with a cheery "Honey, I'm home!" they They come back with profuse apologies and complete sincerity saying they don't know what got into them, saying they're changed now.
It's possible the jilted spouse and kids accept the apology and take them back, but anything's possible. I can't say I've heard of it after four years, but let's go with it.
There are going to be some problems in the reunification, right? That's just inevitable. That's just human. A lack of trust. Hard to overcome, it can be done, but it's hard. Resentment, especially by dependents. Wariness. Counseling, therapy, long talks, okay, let's say it comme ci, comme ça works out. "Daddy's home, oh daddy's home to stay."
That was Europe toward the U.S. 2021-2024. Relieved, glad, wary, but WELCOME BACK, UNCLE SAM! But wary. Hopeful, with doubts; relieved but realistic; accepting but suspicious; watchful. The Europeans had a word for Joe Biden's presidency, "interregnum".
And then after four years the motherfucker leaves the marital home and kids again.
What if they come back four years later again?
In my own analogoustically* imperfect way that was blue wave me last night. It's foolish but its human to squint hard and see blue peeking in the blackest cloud. It's human to distract oneself. What's the alternative? See prior post. And then you regain your rationality and it's still black outside. That's me too, tonight.
*"Analogoustically" is not a standard English word, but it is an invented adverb formed from analogous
