It’s Friday Night…

ISRAEL HAD 40-PAGE HAMAS OCT. 7 ATTACK PLAN FOR OVER YEAR

Dismissed it as beyond Hamas' capabilities. Didn't share it with Washington.

…the 40-page plan, dubbed “Jericho Wall,” laid out almost exactly how Hamas eventually wound up carrying out the attack.

The [New York] Times writes: “The document called for a barrage of rockets at the outset of the attack, drones to knock out the security cameras and automated machine guns along the border, and gunmen to pour into Israel en masse in paragliders, on motorcycles and on foot — all of which happened on Oct. 7.”

Does Israel have impeachment? Bloated, old, corrupt Netanyahu should be removed from office. He should not be given the option to resign. Netanyahu must go!

Santos Expelled

Guess who the "Heat" play next and where?

Indiannoplace in Bang Bus tomorrow. Man, I don't like this Major League Baseball scheduling.

Security Investment Thinkings 2.0

I confess I elided over or didn't let the line on the PAC-12 championship game sink in. In Las Vegas:

Oregon (#5) -9.5 Washington (#3)

Shocking. I get that it's a rematch (W won 36-33 in Seattle Oct. 14). I get that W eked by Wazzu last weekend, also at home. To me, the added motivation and the squeaker don't explain such a heavy line. I even checked to see if W's QB Michael Penix, Jr. was a scratch. He's not.

I would like to let this percolate a day but I can't. The game is tonight at 8. I'm going to pass.

1.0

Highly unlikely I will be playing this Championship Weekend. A contracted slate of the highest profile games seldom yields an exploitable House distortion. Only one game is on my radar.

Looking hard at

Iowa vs Michigan-22. With the head Stalion back Iowa's only winning chance is a Michigan plane crash on the way to Indianapolis. But that line! That is literally closer to the over/under in Iowa games this year. Do you know what Iowa's first half over/under is? .5! Half a point! So the collective wisdom of investors is that the final score will be something like 22-0, 23-1 (one point safety) or 24-2. Even an Iowa field goal would do violence to the judgment that Iowa will only score zero or one point by halftime. It's just too weird, Iowa is just too weird for me to wrap my brain around this game.

As if it could get any worse

Cuban Waitress

The Latin Cafe is a working class restaurant. Working class patrons--cops, fire fighters, elevator repairmen, gardeners, very blue collar--working class waitresses (there are no male waiters). Patrons go there in groups before their shift. I go there alone. I go there to eat, which I do quickly, and leave, also quickly. I don't know the names of anybody who goes or works there.

The staff is heavily Cuban. There is one waitress in particular who is newer, does not speak much English, therefore does not understand my "same": potato and onion omelette, Cuban toast, colada with splenda not sugar, and pay in advance because I don't like to chase my waitress down. This newer waitress is younger, is Cuban: therefore is uncommonly comely, therefore commonly big-butted.

I am in none of the demographic categories above. I always sit at a center table with my back to the front door. There was a crazy, middle-aged, heavily-rouged, non-Latin, busybody woman who I used to see every time I went there. She seemed to have an affinity for me as a fellow, which drove me mad. I was afraid that she would greet me or try to start conversation or do something the like disagreeable. I would assiduously avoid eye contact but I could feel her eyes on me. As soon as I lifted my head from my book or my phone or my legal papers she was looking at me and then would quickly dart them away. So I always sat far from her, near the door, in the center of the room with my back to her. I go there to eat, which is a bodily need but is still an imposition. I do not converse except to order and I do not people watch unless I am forced to as in the case of the crazy busybody lady. I ignore and am ignored, which is the way I prefer it.

In my studied non-studiousness however I observed a charming scene recently. A group of Otis elevator workers were sitting at their customary last table furthest away from the front door, facing that way of necessity, and about twelve feet from me. I had already ordered, from the uncommonly pretty, commonly big-butted, young, Cuban waitress and was eating when a friendly arm went up from the elevator table accompanied by a smiling hello sound. His eyes and greeting were for someone to my rear. The pretty big-butted Cuban waitress approached the elevator table and smiled in a demure way and took their orders. When she walked away she shuffled rather than walked, towards me, unnoticing me. Her back was to the elevator table now, therefore they couldn't see. Her head was slightly bent down, her eyes dipped but her mouth was turned up in the most adorable, subtle, pleased grin. She had made, or renewed, a connection with an elevator man who she clearly, from the look on her face, fancied.

I wonder if he knows. Guys are notoriously oblivious to those signals.

Eleven

They say people choose dogs but cats choose people. I seldom leave my condo unit. Once, maybe twice, a day for provisions. Eleven never leaves. We are four floors up. I dare not open even the balcony doors for fear he would get curious, jump onto the concrete railing and lose his balance from so little as a gust of wind. When I went away for Thanksgiving he stayed here. No cat motel for him. I wouldn't do it. He chose me and he chose this place and only with both is he safe and content. I turned into a preppie like my Big Brother's family. I left food and water and litter for a score of cats all over the place. When I came back I got the most rapturous welcome I ever received in my life. I have him and he has me and only here, together, are we happy and content and safe. In the eleventh hour of my life Eleven chose me. Forever. Till death do us part.

Drug Drop

My son and his new wife began their honeymoon weekend on the evening of October 6 at the Eden Roc hotel on Miami Beach. Late at night while Ana slept Garman went out onto the balcony to shoot pictures of the “Honey Moon”, a past time of his and mine, with his professional Canon. As he was focusing a plane flew across the camera lens. Just then the plane door opened and Garman clicked the shutter. A suitcase-sized package was pushed out of the bay door and fell and splashed into the Atlantic Ocean below. Garman put the camera down. In the water five (to throw off pursuit) go fast boats boats converged on the package. One of them scooped the suitcase up and then all five sped off as quickly as they had appeared in five different directions. There was no pursuit, the gendarme was completely unaware of the incursion into United States airspace. The Coast Guard was oblivious. For the drug runners it was mission accomplished.
