Ad & Don

I’m now re-reading The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. Like everyone else, seemingly, William Shirer was mucho impressed by Hitler’s soaratory. Maybe it’s because I don’t speak Kraut or Slaver but I have always wondered, “What is it with those people?”, Hitler supporters and Trump supporters.

I know, I know, even the title of this post offends people. How dare I compare Hitler to Trump? But jeezy peezy guys, I’m just reading what the guy wrote about Hits. How can you not see parallels? Of course, of course I recognize that the self-styled “very stable genius” is not the same as the universally-styled “evil genius”. Of course. Of course, I recognize that Trump is functionally illiterate while Hitler wrote a book; that Ad could deliver a real stemwinder of a speech, apparently, I take Shirer’s and other’s words for that, and that Trump could not pronounce Yosemite; that Hits had ideas, which it is conceded here he took “too far,” while Trump, not so much; that Trump is a mountebank straight out of Huckleberry Finn, while Hits was a real king. I ask you in a spirit of fairness to both of these innteresting individuals, are not these differences attributable to the difference in intelligence between the German people and the American people? C'mon.

Ad had his January 6, the Beer Hall Putsch (such a mistake). Both he and Trump were exiled as a result, Ad to a club-fed prison, Trump to Mar-a-Lago. Their political parties were in disarray while they were absent, Hitler's had a DOZEN (of 491!) seats in the German Congress, called the "Reichstag" lol, after the May, 1928 elections. Both Republics did awesome in their absence for awhile. Both soon went to pot. Both Leaders were in internal confinement for about six months, both had their favorite bull horns taken away from them the while, but both managed to keep potential challengers to leadership of their parties away. Shortly after Hits was released from gaol Twitter lifted its restrictions on him. "The wild beast is checked," said Bavaria's Prime Minister (foot fault by the Bavarian Primo there). Two months later Trump was back at the Beer Hall. "I alone lead the movement!" said Trump on February 27, 1925. And he did, both fuhrers did.
