Oh God, I'm going to throw up.
The 7-day average daily deaths for the Oct. 10 iteration is 2,000, 250 more per day in the last week. Yes, I'm suspicious of exactly 2,000.
...Oh, we have an explanation!
Man, they musta added a whole BUNCH of deaths to skew the entire week's average like that.
Now, we just made you National Director of COVID policy, okay? Congratulations, allow me to introduce you to your Chief statistician,
Okay, you can go now…Go back outside!
What do you do, Director (you can’t fire her, she has civil service protection.)? We were going good on all metrics, the graphs all sloping down over a sustained period of time. Even Paul Krugman, bless his heart, was convinced to write , "At this point the Delta wave is clearly receding", and then you get that fucking graph in your inbox. Almost all the fucking progress since Sept. 24--poof!
Of course, it's
reported deaths. So? All the fucking stats are "reported." That's the data we got Bubba too bad so sad. Do you ignore it? That doesn't seem wise. Do you spread it over the days of the fucking Arkansas deaths?
You still got that fucking graph, in print.
What are you supposed to do with the Labor Day garbage?
How--the fuck--can you set policy when the fucking data that you have vowed to base your policy on is all hooey?
We can't do this, ladies and gentlemen, Americans cannot do disease eradication in 2020 or 2021. We're just not good enough! Britons can do it, Indians can do it, we cannot. We can’t even count.
Why do I do this? Masochist. I think I did give it up for awhile after the Labor Day nightmare. In for a dime in for a dollar, let's finish it tonight.
14-day changes
-19% cases. A point less than the Oct. 9 iteration.
-20% hospitalizations. One point less.
-2% deaths. 12 points less.
7-day daily averages
96,549 cases, down 401 ave/day.
67,851 hospitalizations, down 869.
2,000 deaths, up 250/day using Oct. 10th's number for Oct. 9th, up 251/day using Oct. 9th's number for Oct. 9 (induced madness warning: reported deaths just on Oct. 10? 481 (but today is a lag day, (okay, reported deaths yesterday, a non-lag day? 503. hahahahaha blubba blubba blubba cuckoo! cuckoo! hahahahaha.))
