I have been away from this so long that I once understood how this made sense:
In our view, the best chance for the Bay Area schools to generate serious interest from Fox [i.e. B1G] is to secure invitations from the ACC and its media overlord, ESPN.
Stanford and Cal have been so desperate to get into the ACC that they've had George W. Bush (on behalf of SMU, too) and Condoleeza Rice (Stanford) call conference HQ! Yet, if the ACC/ESPN extended invitations, Stanford and Cal would spurn them for the B1G...Yeah, I don't understand that now.
