In the nine full seasons since LBJ went back home Miami is an average (both senses) 45-37 in the regular season, making the Finals twice. We have lost two key contributors, the Artist and the Composer, and have augmented with the usual bevy of marginals. The regular season will have more player effort in 2023/24 by diktat of Commissioner Silver, spurred by new TV contract negotiations, and the new in-season tournament commences. Thus it is likely that the 82 games will give a truer indication of quality than in the past and militate against an 8-seed sprinting all the way to the championship round.
