In a hopeful preview of the Finals the Champions won 115-109, sweeping their two games against the Teenage Mentalities. Chi withstood the Peaceniks 4Q comeback before the Gen X billionaires; Fort Wayne finally got to 10 wins in the Malice Palace over Rust; Indiana Marymount, coming down from the mountain top, fell in the gym to 🧊; Purple Beam, who the "Heat" play tonight, [We play OKC tonight]*edged the Chaparrals sans Wembanyama, and of course a Fat Cuban Horse still outran my beloved "Heat". Duncan faded, Bam got cleaned on the glass, Jimmy was not Himmy and the reality is we cannot win important games without Himmy. Miami finished the night in 6th, on a tiebreaker over the Procedure Addressers, 1.5 games from 🐭 and 4th, one game ahead of Indiana and 8th.
The "Heat" are winning .565 of their games which projects to 46 wins. I astonished myself and avid tens of readers by predicting a 51-win season when we had, I think, 27 games left to play. Now we have 20 and would have to go 15-5 or .750 to get to 51. We have the second-easiest schedule remaining. Fifty-one is my story and I'm stickin' to it, but I think when I looked at the schedule remaining before yesterday's game I had us beating Allas. We should have won. Fifty-one wins of 82 is .622. Were we to reach that accepted standard of team excellence for an NBA regular season we would finish 4th, only two places higher than we are now. The reality of course is that we will end closer to where we are at present in the tenuous midline of the great bulging midriff of the Least.
