Deary me, it is trying to be good at this and become rich. I am up $30 on the season. Have made the two bets, totaling $10 that I wanted to make. These three, I have added the immediately following, linger on my inflated brain. I have to be mindful of something: If I bet each of the three games below I would be extended $25 in one day. To my memory I have never risked so much in one day. Gulp. That causes me to gulp. Yesterday I wrote:
Cal-UMG -10. Cal's pretty good. Beat The Plain Tiger Eagles in Deliverance. Lost 14-9 at Half Ass. Play my beloved "Panthers" on a lonely field beyond Fort Pitt on Oct. 12, btw. And I feel UMG is due for a fuck up. Last week, they really lost that game, but got an undeserved call, may have been their fuck up. And it went in the books as a W so now I'm spooked. They will win by hook or by crook. Investors are superstitious, as I am about PSU this week, but the "Gardeners" are a really fine foo'ball team. Fucking STOMPED the Alligators in the swamp, laid a double nickel on the Male Cows in Tampa last week. I'm not betting against them.
Since then I have read that becoming ACC members has infected the Bay Area Nobel Factories with a mild strain of Football Fever. The Airplane Conference of former Pitt Athletic Director Tom Hamilton has taken wing.
Oh, and ESPN College Game Day is in Berkeley for the first time in the whole history of the Earth. Make that a moderate strain of Football Fever.
Berkeley scholars are going to be as crazy as they can be without their slide rules. And as numerous. A crowd of 50,000, largest in eight years for a game other than Cal-Stanford is anticipated. The crowd is not going to be as much a factor against Miami Gardens as it will work in favor of the "Golden Bears". If chants of "ACC! ACC!" break out I think my water might break. And Cal's pretty good. In the political patois du jour I am moving this game from a "lean" Cal-10 to a "likely" Cal-10. BUT I'M NOT MAKING ANY MONETARY DECISIONS AT 10 O'CLOCK AT NIGHT!
Nebraska -7 Rutgers. Scarlet Pimpernel 4-0 (Howard, Akron, @ Va. Tech, Wershington). Cornholers 4 (UTEP, Colorado, No. Iowa, @ Purdoofus) and 1 (Illinoise). Not sold on either team's quality and 7 is a lot for two question mark teams. It's going to be low-scoring, Schiano's teams always play tough defense but don't score a lot of points. I'm actually a little nervous about Nebraska at home. Their one L was in Lincoln and they seem to play tight there going back to Scott Frost. They lost three times at home last year, including excruciating losses to Maryland and Iowa. Different year, they have Dominic Riola now, and an excellent coach. I don't know. A 7-point spread in a game that I think is going to be short on points is tempting. I hate Schiano and love Nebraska so it's hard for me to put money on the former and against the latter. Pass for now.
I talked to my Big Brother today about this game and the one below. He thought my thoughts above were convincing. I am putting aside personal taste and distaste. The game being in Lincoln makes the spread more attractive. The "Cornhuskers" do seem to play tight at home. This one is firmly a "likely' play but not tonight.
FU-UCF. Flarida at home against Central and Central is a 2.5-point favorite! I don't know about that, man. UCF has made this personal because Billy Naps dismissed critics who "live in their mother's basement in central Florida." Not AT Central Florida, in the central part of the state. So the "Golden Knights" have put a chip on their shoulder. I can't believe that spread. Alumni and fans of a team often bet with their heart and spleen, skewing the line in favor of the legacy program. Here, it has gone in reverse! Gus Malzahn can sure enough coach the pants off Billy Naps but who have the "Golden Knights" played? One team. They got pantsed at home by the Colorado "Golden Buffaloes" just last week. Like with Ruptures, I can't stand the "Gators" so it's difficult for me to put money on them. Pass for now.
"I don't think so, Ben", my B.B. said when I mentioned the dangers of the Swamp to visitors. "It makes you tight." Which was my point about Nebraska and I don't think my B.B. knew until I told him that FU fans have been on Billy Naps like stink on shit. However forced, however faux, UCF has convinced themselves that they were disrespected. And they have the superior coach. ...I still can't believe FU is an underdog at home to CENTRAL FUCKING FLORIDA! Dare I, really, do I DARE put money on UCF to BEAT Florida by 3 or more? Nah-ah. I'm dumb but not stupid. Turn it around: Do I have the BALLS to say the "Gators" will win or lose by two or less? Yes, I do have the stones to do that. And I may--TOMORROW!
