"Heat" 55 Jizz 57, 1:50 2Q, Jizz FTO

I haven't followed the game closely; didn't know it was a 5 pm start. The "Heat" were up significantly, 22-16, and then next I checked they needed a 8-1 run at the start of the 2nd to draw even. Obviously, we are not playing "Heat" defense. In my sketchy following, that's all I can make out.

Jeanne Dielman

Yes, I'm watching it again.

On the second day she is beginning to unwind psychologically. She's like a robot, walking at a brisk, purposeful pace, making house thoroughly without duplication of effort and mistake free. She is very controlled, like a rustless bolt to borrow from the Chinese. But now she's forgetting things, making mistakes. The bolt is slipping and shaking loose from its tight fitting.

43-43, 6:47 2Q, "Heat" FTO

Jimmy is game high with 12, K. George leads Utah with 9.

Utah led 34-30 end 1

No one speaks to her. She says "Au revoir, madame" in a pleasant voice to a waitress, the waitress doesn't reciprocate.

The Jizz will ooze into Bang Bus tonight. The "Heat" are 15-13 inside the Bus and 18-13 outside. Weird. Weird, but not unknown for this weird franchise. Miami is -7.5.

Katrina's Wave

The 90.9% shooting was the highest field-goal percentage by any team in a quarter this season and the highest percentage in a first quarter by any team since Dallas shot 94% in a 2014 game against Utah.
...
In addition to their hot shooting, the Pelicans played suffocating defense against the highest-scoring team in the NBA, holding the Pacers to 42.6% shooting and 21 points below their 123-point-per-game average.
...
“The Pelicans put up historic numbers, and we did not get a defensive rebound (in the first quarter). I have not heard of that happening.”--
Indiana head man Rick Carlisle. (AP for ESPN)

Sweden: Neutrality, NATO

They were neutral for over 200 years, through European wars and world wars. In AP's words, "It was a stance that kept peace at home and contributed to the country becoming a prosperous welfare state and humanitarian superpower."

It all ended Feb. 22, 2022.

The invasion “had a shock effect on Swedish political life,” said Henrik Ekengren Oscarsson, a political scientist at the University of Goteborg. He analyzed polling data showing that support for NATO membership surged from 35% in 2021 to 64% after the invasion.

“It was the largest and fastest shift in opinion that has so far been measured in Swedish political history,” Ekengren Oscarsson wrote.

"Let us be proud of being vertebrates, for we are vertebrates tipped at the head with a divine flame."

Although we read with our minds, the seat of artistic delight is between the shoulder-blades. That little shiver behind is quite certainly the highest form of emotion that humanity has attained when evolving pure art and pure science. Let us worship the spine and its tingle. Let us be proud of being vertebrates, for we are vertebrates tipped at the head with a divine flame. The brain only continues the spine, the wick really runs through the whole length of the candle.-Vladimir Nabokov, Cornell lectures on literature, Charles Dickens, Bleak House

If personified, the Eastern Conference of the NBA would be a middle-aged man thin on the top, then on the bottom and with a bulging midsection. Entering Thursday night's smorgasbord Miami was fifth in the East. Exiting, the offerings thoroughly rearranged, the "Heat" are eighth, one and one-half game from fourth and home court in the first round of the playoffs. New York is fourth, 12 games behind Boston City; Philadelphia is fifth, 13 games behind; Orlando sixth, two-thousands of a percentage decimal behind Phila; Indiana is seventh, identical to Orlando, separated only by tie-breaker; and then the "Heat".

A consistent pattern is evident in Erik Spoelstra's handling of Nikola Jovic's minutes. I don't know that I have ever seen it before with a player. For the umpteenth time Jovic was among the starters but not the finishers. Jovic finished 7th in minutes played last night, fewer than any other starter and two reserves. Earlier in the season the thought among the cognos was that Spo was puffing Jovic up for a trade. So poor were these cameo performances that Ira Winderman asked rhetorically if Spoelstra wasn't done with this mad scientist experiment. Recently, the intelligent chatter was in the polar opposite: Jovic was the "Heat's" "secret weapon" for the playoffs. The "Heat" was "different" this time versus Denver because we had a more seasoned...Jovic. (Barry Jackson) Jovic's usage has been at polar opposites: starter or DNPCD. Or Sioux Falls! He has spent plenty of time in the G League.

Good writing supposedly ends where it begins so I will do that here. I don't remember ever seeing Erik Spoelstra handle a player in this manner before.

“They play hard. They play really hard.”-Michael Porter, Jr. on the "Heat".

“They're really aggressive and they are not quitting. They know what they’re doing and it’s always hard to play against that team.”-Nikola Jokic.

But, we never led. We got it to two with 11" left.
