Seeking Sgt. Bracken
Have I ever found an enlistment photo of any member of Company F of the Pa. 133rd? Speakman, Allabach. No one else. Oh, a private, John Perrin. A private! Sgt. Bracken was in D.C. with his partying compatriots. There's a photo of them!
Have I ever found a letter by Sgt. Bracken, or one mentioning him? Only in Chaplain Hartsock's book where his name is misspelled "Bracker." Didn't he get diarrhea "which hit the Pa. 133rd particularly hard"? Not a mention in the Sanitary Commission reports. What, was he immune to partying and diarrhea?
A correspondent some years ago suggested that the boys of Company F probably didn't write. At all? I think that unlikely to impossible. Bell Wiley gathered hundreds of letters, some barely intelligible, from less educated Confederate soldiers. Surely Nathan Bracken could write "as well." He had a wife! He was away from home for the first time! He never wrote to her or she to him from August 15-December 13? Well, that's not very long and for a letter to have survived...Fine, what about a photo? NOTHING. See, I'm getting myself worked up again. If I hadn't checked gmail...I had given up on this. It really frustrates me.

Seeking Sgt. Nathan Bracken
Oh, so close. Corporal James M. Thompson, Company F, 133rd Pennsylvania Volunteers Infantry Regiment. I have seen this CDV before. From memory Thompson became a Philadelphia lawyer after the war, which is when this photo was taken. Obviously not his enlistment photo.
Ooh, the City drew Schalke in the Champs League😂 Bottom half of the Bundesliga are Schalke. Maybe UEFA is trying to make nice with City. Try to head off the Super League. IT WON’T WORK!
Liverpool “Red Sox” got another team from the Bundesliga...Munich🤣
Manchester “Buccaneers” are matched opposite Paris.
Very favorable matchup for the City. Not so much for Liverpool and United.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House on Sunday pushed the federal government closer to the brink of a partial shutdown later this week, digging in on its demand for $5 billion to build a border wall as congressional Democrats stood firm against it.
"We will do whatever is necessary to build the border wall to stop this ongoing crisis of immigration," said White House senior adviser Stephen Miller.
Asked if that meant having a government shutdown, he said: "If it comes to it, absolutely."
NE-PIT
The “Steelers” have shown me more since they picked Tom Brady than I ever expected them to have. They have drained almost 5 minutes off the clock on a drive that started at their own 4 yard line. There are now just under 3 minutes to play and they still have the ball, at about midfield. Even Brady is going to have trouble pulling this one out if NE ever gets possession back.
Games
The "Steelers" are in a pickle at Heinz. They lead 14-10 with 11:20 left in the game but Ben Roethlisberger just threw his second INT of the game, Chris Boswell missed another field goal and NE has the ball at the Pit 13. Roethlisberger's second quarter INT was at the NE 24.
Not even a month ago I read an article on ESPNFC by "Nick" "Miller". At the time, after week 13, Manchester City led the Premier League by two points. Nick however could see the handwriting on the wall:
Not only could City win this year's title at a stroll, but there's a strong chance they'll completely dominate the division for years to come.
Liverpool were,
probably still going to lose [the league] by 10 points. Maybe more.
Would it be a huge surprise if City won the next three Premier League titles? Four? Five? Are they going to turn the richest league in the world, the division that sells itself as the place where anyone can beat anyone, into a procession?
Yes, that would be a huge surprise, Nick. Here are the Premier League champions since the Manchester Revolution of 2008.
English Premier League (1st)
2008–09 Manchester United
2009–10 Chelsea
2010–11 Manchester United
2011–12 Manchester City
2012–13 Manchester United
2013–14 Manchester City
2014–15 Chelsea
2015–16 Leicester City
2016–17 Chelsea
2017–18 Manchester City
No club has even repeated as champions in that time span. So yes Nick, BIG FUCKING SURPRISE.
Now week 18 is in the books. Liverpool has led the league for two successive weeks.
Ultimately, for the neutral, it's boring. It's boring whenever one team is totally dominant.
Are you still bored, Nick? There are two great teams in the Premier League this year, separated by one point after 45% of the season has been played. That is every "neutral" sports fan's dream. It sure does not look like City is going to win the league "in a stroll." "Totally dominant"...What are you going to say to that?
Sport relies on competition, but if City are too good for the competition, we're just watching exhibition football. You might as well cancel your TV subscriptions and fire up YouTube to watch those people do absurd tricks in cool urban locations, for all the competitive drama the Premier League could bring.
“Too good for the competition”: “Too good for the competition”! Yeah, cancel your EPL TV subscription Nick. Subscribe to the TV services that carry La Liga, the Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue 1. You talk about "too good for the competition," take a gander at those other four of the best five leagues in the world and their champions since 2008 and compare to the EPL's:

Manchester City are a majestic football team. They can play football the like of which we've rarely seen. They have the potential to be the Premier League's dominant side for years to come. If they do, it's great for them. But ultimately it's bad for the rest of us.
Nick, take some anti-depressants. Some antipsychotics, too. Add some anti-hallucinogens and feel better, Nick.

Sadio Mane gives ‘Pool the deserved lead in the 26’. They had been overwhelming Man U with nine shots on goal before Mane struck.
#1 Tackle Football Scholar Takes His Talents to Oregon
There's a story here.
The PAC-12 Media Company teeters on irrelevance. But Chip Kelly now leads Westwood One and Miami-born Mario Cristobal is head man at Nike. Cristobal was an assistant at Miami Gardens U, became the head man at Florida International where he took his charges to a bowl game and got sacked by ASSHOLE Pete Garcia, humbled down to Alabama to be an assistant under Nick Satan and thence to the Emerald city where he went 8-4 in his first year with a game left against Michigan State in the "Redbox Bowl" and had the sixth-rated 2019 recruiting class before yesterday, which brings us around to the main story here.
Kayvon Thibodeaux is the #1 rated prep player in the nation out of California. Obviously recruited by the best Pigskin Departments in the land: Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Pitt, etc. There is more to young Kayvon however than blocking and tackling and in this department he reminds of another prodigal, LeBron James, for Kayvon Thibodeaux is socially aware. On his visit to Tuscaloosa Kayvon took time to visit the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham an hour away. Four young black girls were murdered by a bomber of the Ku Klux Klan (my brother the klansman was not involved) in 1963. In Tallahassee he went to HBCU Florida A&M and visited FSU's African-American archives. Kayvon explained: "I know these schools have a great [football] program, but I feel like more student-athletes should go check out the history. There's a lot of history in the football world and college world, so every time I'm going to a place where I have an opportunity to learn some history, I like to." He "likes to." Check out the "history." Kayvon Thibodeaux is a gem, an emerald now, in life. He is going to be a leader in life.
