Received an email a few days ago:
Hi Benjamin,
I recently did some research on my ancestors who fought in the Civil War, and learned my great-great-grandfather William Flickinger fought with the Pennsylvania 133rd before being injured at Fredericksburg and discharged. I stumbled across your blog while looking for more info on the regiment, & loved seeing the work you've done researching and writing about the regiment. Furthermore, I was thrilled to see your post about the muster roll for Company G, the company William fought in! Could I take you up on your offer of sending a photo of his entry? I'd love to have it for a scrapbook I intend to put together.
Sincerely,
[name withheld]
I knew I got the muster roll a few years ago but I could not picture it in my mind and have been so busy and so tired that after a cursory look in a couple of likely places I emailed back that I didn't know what I did with it. Today, after I left work I went back to his email, went on Publocc to look at the original post again to see if that would refresh my memory (it didn't), but then said to myself, "Where the fuck would that thing be?" and looked at my bookshelf and there it was. I immediately took photos of Mr. Flickinger's signature and sent them to his great-great-grandson. He hasn't responded yet that he got the muster entry photos but he did send me this nice follow-up to my "I don't know where it is" email:
No worries Ben! If it turns up randomly in the future, I’m still interested in a photo. But know that you’ve already helped me a ton with your research and writing!
Happy 4th!
Sincerely,
He is going to be happy. :)
