... [Angela Maria Geli Raubal] was twenty, with flowing blond hair, handsome features, a pleasant voice and a sunny disposition...
What's that about, Shirer?
Sunny dis...The guy and his hands....Sunny disposition, jawohl. Where did Shirer get "flowing" "blond"? Okay, it's braided there fraulein style--so long, at one time, but not flowing, and in no way blond. Did Shirer never see the woman? See photos of her? Where did he get "flowing blond"?
Methusala.
There is not one goddamned picture of Geli Raubal as a fucking blond. Not one.
Okay, I digress.
Who was Geli? While many testify to the peculiar power of her beauty—she was “an enchantress,” said Hitler’s photographer; “a princess, people on the street would turn around” to stare at her, according to Emil Maurice, Hitler’s chauffeur...She "cast a spell over Hitler." I’d seen the blurry photographs of her. Some of them captured a hint of her haunting appeal, some did not.
I pricked up my ears when I read "cast a spell." I was thinking of a post last night: Hitler really cast a spell over everyone who met him, including William Shirer, other Americans, obviously over Germans. There was an enchanter.* That led me to google-image Geli and I was nonplussed. Show me one picture of her where she looks like an "enchantress," someone who could "cast a spell." That's bullshit. I don't consider Ron Rosenbaum a trustworthy source on this, but then, I would have considered Shirer trustworthy until I saw photos of Geli.
Hitler soon fell in love with her. ...
It is probable that Hitler intended to marry his niece. ...That Hitler was deeply in love with her [early fellow Nazis] had no doubt.
...
Some deep rift whose origins and nature have never been fully ascertained grew between them. ...She objected too to her uncle's tyranny over her. ...
"Controlling" type, Uncle Alf.
There are dark hints too that she was repelled by the masochistic :o inclinations of her lover, that this brutal tyrant in politics yearned to be enslaved by the woman he loved--a not uncommon urge in such men, according to the sexologists. Heiden tells of a letter which Hitler wrote to his niece in 1929 confessing his deepest feelings in this regard. ...
1) "masochistic" "enslaved." I understand what those two terms mean, sticks and stones may break my bones but whips and chains excite me. I do not understand those two terms to include scatology--could, but yearning to be shat and peed on is usually given its own category.
2) "not uncommon urge." Shirer, now how the fuck do you know that? Did you really ring up a couple of sexologists and ask them, "Hey, do brutal tyrants secretly yearn to be enslaved by women?" Like gay men are peculiarly violent and have "peculiar jealousies"?
3) "Heiden tells of a letter". The letter does not exist. Whether it existed at one time, Alf-ologists appear to be divided on. Shirer cites to pages 384-86 of Konrad Heiden's Der Führer – Hitler's Rise to Power (1944), which I can't read online but which undoubtedly cites to Gregor Strasser who told the contents to the Allies at Nuremberg, and to Father Bernard Stempfle who supposedly secreted it. There was also an American woman with a German name who, according to Rosenbaum anyway, was not surprised that such a letter with that content existed. Why would Hitler put that in writing?
Whatever it was that darkened the love...their quarrels became more violent", Geli was going to go to Vienna, Hitler forbade her, he drove off--there are two witnesses to this--and the next morning she was found dead of a gunshot wound . [I]t seemed beyond doubt that the shot was self-inflicted. Geli had committed suicide. With a shot to the heart (Maybe that's the way girls do it?). With Hitler's gun.
The Rise and Fall...Shirer (131-2).
According to Shirer, witnesses heard Geli say, "Then you won't let me go to Vienna?" and Hitler shout, "No!" The two need not be mutually exclusive but we may conclude from this account that the proximate cause of Geli's suicide was Hitler's taste for control, not because Geli was repulsed by Hitler's Fetlife tastes.
Anyway, I knew that Eva Braun had swallowed her gun with Hitler in the bunker, I googled something, I don't remember, "heiden masochistic letter hitler to geli raubal," probably, got a Wikipedia link to "Sexuality of Adolph Hitler" and learned that two other women, one "possibly" a lover, the other a "speculated" lover of Hitler's attempted suicide. Guy could cast a spell hoo-doggie.
*I have never understood this about Hitler. I don't understand German and so I can't hear it in his speeches. I wrote some notes for the post today while waiting in court.
