It's so attenuated now as to be old news but I cannot tell you how impressed, shocked, I was that Boston College hired Bill O'Brien away from Ohio. BC has been pigeon poop in football for so long. They were one of the Exhibits in Half Ass U's brief against the ACC. They're a small, private school with high academic standards, a small stadium and no national following (unlike say Duke, with whom there is some resemblance). And they got a whale. O'Brien will recruit well and coach hell out of the players. If only he stays. My concern is his disloyalty. I hope--and I assume--that Father William P. Leahy drafted a contract that is punitive if O'Brien walks away for a better job. O'Brien does that. Did it at Paterno-Sandusky, did it mere weeks after landing a plum job as OC with Ohio. But what a catch. Congratulations to Boston College.
