#Once again I alter this post. I entirely replace the original two versions with the immediately following. I keep the originals for accountability.
Utah Man Arrested in Assassination of Trump Supporter
"We got him."
Utah governor Spencer J. Cox, triumphant on arrest of 22-year old anti-fascist Tyler Robinson, for the assassination of a virulent racist, sexist, homophobic, antisemitic Trumpist who Robinson murdered for peddling hate and inciting violence.
- The arrest of Tyler Robinson is a fact. I neither celebrate nor condemn it.
- Were I a prosecutor and assigned Robinson's case I would prosecute him without qualm.
- Were I a defense attorney and he my client, I would, consistent with my ethical obligation, defend him to the best of my ability.
- I too am ANTIFA. I would defend and prosecute the case the same regardless.
- I condemn murder, assassination is a special form of murder.
- I do not blanket-condemn assassination.
- I do not mourn the assassination. It is a fact. I feel neither empathy nor outrage at the fact.
- I condemn the dead man. Beyond a reasonable doubt, America is an incrementally better place without him. He was a trafficker in hate and a prominent voice of dehumanization of the other: Gays, Blacks, immigrants, Muslims, Jews, trans; he has called for attacks on trans people, and the submission of women to men, these corrective measures to take place by 10th century methods such as stoning to Made-in-America method-of-choice, firearms, "which save lives" (not his, however). There is irony there, but not celebration. (1)
(1) The deceased] believed that gay people should be stoned to death, that the 1964 Civil Rights Act was a “huge mistake,” that we should legally be allowed to whip foreigners in the U.S., that Muslims only move here to destroy the country, that American Jews encourage anti-whiteness, that men should physically attack transgender people, that all women should submit to their husbands, and that Black professionals “steal” their jobs from more qualified white people."
