I GOT ONE RIGHT! ππ π
Dr. Ana and I had a question about a half hour ago. There were six answer choices. (When UWorld gives you more than the normal five choices either 1) the answer is obvious and they want to slow you down, or 2) there is a clue in the answer choices that they want to see if you pick up on.)
Ana suggested that the patient's symptoms were known by the mnemonic HAMARTOMAS. We had seen that fucking thing on Flashcards a zillion times. Each letter stands for a different symptom. There were ten, too many for me to ever get all right. Hell, I didn't even know what condition the symptoms mnemonic represented.
As Ana was reading and considering the answer choices I pointed out that if she was right that it was the HAMARTOMAS condition, that "hamartomas" was in answer choice B. I then remembered two of the mnemonic symptoms and asked Ana to confirm: "Isn't 'ash leaf' and 'Shagreen patches' in there?" The light went on. "Oh, you're right!" Answer choice B read in full "Brain hamartomas and ash-leaf skin patches."
She confidently chose B and WE WERE RIGHT! I belly-laughed it tickled me so much because--only 39% of real medical students got the answer right!
GREAT SUCCESS! HAHAHAHAHAHA
