The horrifying image above is of Steven Woolfe, 49 years old and a member of the European Parliament, the United Kingdom Independence Party representative from North West England. Woolfe was punched by Ukip "defence" spokesman Mike Hookem (I am not making this up) at a EP meeting in Strasbourg, France. Woolfe supposedly hit his head when he fell from the blow but appeared fine immediately afterward. As he was walking to a vote however he suddenly collapsed in his hotel. He was rushed to hospital with a suspected subdural hematoma, bleeding on the brain, and was initially listed in serious condition. He is now sitting up in bed and apparently tweeting. Hookem, on the other hand, is on the run from the police. My GOD.

Which is about as generic as it gets. Not "Matthew," not "Hurricane Matthew," not either of those conjoined with "Miami," "Miami-Dade County," not "Miami Beach," not "Florida," nor "Asshole of America."

I have a question. I have a question that doubles as a proposal. What if we dropped a bunch of conventional bombs designed to explode at altitude into the eye of Matthew? Would that dissipate the storm, fuck him up, give him a black eye, whatever the technical terminology is? I mean, mountains fuck hurricanes up. Why wouldn't bombs do something?

Snowden, who was also a contractor for the agency, took a vast trove of documents that were later passed to journalists, exposing N.S.A. surveillance programs in the United States and abroad.
The contractor was identified as Harold T. Martin III, 51, of Glen Burnie, Md., according to a criminal complaint filed in late August. He was charged with theft of government property, and unauthorized removal or retention of classified documents. A large percentage of the materials found in his house and car contained highly classified information.

In “The five things no one will tell you about why colleges don’t hire more faculty of color,” a piece first published in the Hechinger Report, Marybeth Gasman took on a common question: Why aren’t college faculties more racially diverse?
It’s a question gaining increased urgency from student protesters demanding change on campuses nationally.
Gasman is a professor of higher education in the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania, where she directs the Penn Center for Minority Serving Institutions and holds secondary appointments in history, Africana studies, and the School of Social Policy and Practice.
