Saturday night I read Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers pre-match comments below and drafted the post which follows. I did not publish it, I just decided to "whatever" it. Rodgers comments were so odd, they were not in touch with reality. "Gutted," is the word I used Saturday night but it was beyond that. Rodgers either misspoke, is not bright or articulate, or...out of touch with reality, not all there. I would not have posted Saturday's draft today had I not read similar "out of touch" comments by an ESPNFC writer and LFC fan. This is what David Usher wrote today:

"As disappointing as the past couple of weeks have been, it's worth pointing out that Liverpool did not "lose" the Premier League title this year; they just didn't quite have enough to win it."

Earth to David.

Mr. Usher then followed that with the most bitter comment I have ever read on English football. The context is this: the turning point in LFC's title charge was a loss at home to Chelsea in the third-to-last match of the season. The turning point of that match was Liverpool hero Steven Gerrard's whiff on a passed ball and then a fall to the turf as he tried to chase after Chelsea's Demba Ba who stole the ball and scored. To make matters worse in a previous match Gerrard had been picked up on an open mic exhorting his teammates not to let the title "slip" away...Yeah. And then he slipped and fell and, yeah, it was bad. This is England for godssake, mockery is a national pastime, of course Gerrard and Liverpool were mocked for that splat. So with that as background this is what David Usher wrote today:

"Opposing fans the length and breadth of England have been taking great pleasure in reminding him of it, the same fans, by the way, who will be cheering for him this summer when he captains their country. That's one of numerous reasons why -- try as I might -- I find it impossible to root for England, but that's another article for another time."

Oh my. Liverpool supporters, writers included, would do well to lie down and take a powder. They're losing it. Here was Saturday's post:

We pass along the following cautionary to God's Angels in Blue from Brendan Rodgers:

"It will be interesting if we make one of our quick starts and get up in the game. Then there'll be a point when we're up and City are drawing. It's not nice when you know there's another team playing that can win. When you know you have to not lose, it's uncomfortable. It's not over by any stretch of the imagination and West Ham are a really good defensive unit. Andy Carroll can score goals, they've got other players who can score goals and there will be a nervousness there."

My goodness. Liverpool appears to be so gutted right now they can't think straight. If the Cannibals win and City tie, Rodgers' "interesting" first two sentences, City wins the league...

The next sentence, "not nice," I guess he's referring to the Cannibals, his own side. That's consistent with his earlier "thought," a City draw and a 'Bals win wins him the league. That's consistent, it's just consistently wrong. I don't know, maybe he's drinking again. Or flunked first grade arithmetic. Either or.

"Uncomfortable" to know you can't lose. That has the merit of being arithmetically correct. Not a cogent thought, really. Realistically, City has to lose for the Cannibals to win the league. If City draw the only way the Cannibals can win the league is if they beat Newcastle 13-0. That's uncomfortable.

"It's not over." Whatever you say, Bren-bren. Does Liverpool have a team shrink?  Perhaps not. Hasn't stopped Luis Suarez from chomping people or Steven Gerrard from imitating Bill Buckner. Too bad. They could use one. In my opinion.
