This will be the final post in the last 24 hours. And the 13th. Lotta writin' today.
God's Righteous Angels have now won two straight in the UCL since the disaster at the Etihad against Juventus. First they took down Borussia Monchengladbach, currently 10th in the Bundesliga, in Monchengladbach on a Kun Aguero winner. Today they played Sevilla FC, 13th in La Liga, at the Etihad and on an own goal and a Kevin De Bruyne goal triumphed also by 2-1. As important, Monchengladbach went to Turin and held Juve 0-0, City thereby picking up two points on the Group D leaders. City still have to go to Juve and good luck with that and to Seville. Monchengladbach was expected to go oh-fer in this competition so today's draw qualifies as a shock. City has never impressed in this competition and it does not appear from the domestic standings of Sevilla and Monchengladbach that this is exactly the "Group of Death" mocked here previously. However the victory today was without Captain Vinny Kompany, without Kun, without David Silva, so was a pretty darn good result. They obviously need those three stars back for Juve, whenever that match is, and, given history, it probably will not be enough but they will get through to the next round. They are second, only one point behind the leaders now, and the top two in the group advance. Hope yet for that long-sought deep run in the UCL.
