"Secret CIA assessment says Russia was trying to help Trump win White House"-WaPo

"Trying" is not new and does not cut it as explanation. They either did or did not.

The CIA has concluded in a secret assessment that Russia intervened in the 2016 election to help Donald Trump win the presidency, rather than just to undermine confidence in the U.S. electoral system...

"Intervened" is not new. "To help" is a little ambiguous. They did intervene. They did so "with the intent" to help," to "try" to help? Or with the result of providing "help." Even if it is just "with the intent" the object, Trump, is different from more vague "destabilization."

“It is the assessment of the intelligence community that Russia’s goal here was to favor one candidate over the other, to help Trump get elected,” said a senior U.S. official briefed on an intelligence presentation made to U.S. senators. “That’s the consensus view.”

That is just the quote that supports the Post's dek.

Though Russia has long conducted cyberspying on U.S. agencies, companies and organizations, this presidential campaign marks the first time Russia has attempted through cyber means to interfere in, if not actively influence, the outcome of an election, the officials said.

Okay, taken in conjunction with Monaco's and Schultz' statements it is reasonably clear to me now that this does not involve the "hacking," that was the word in various headlines, of state election systems to alter the vote count. That would have been diff!
