The prosecution’s stated motive: That Mr. Murdaugh feared his financial crimes were about to come to light, and killed his loved ones in a bid for sympathy.


If they prove it they don’t have to prove why he did it. Period. If you tell the jury the motive then you best prove it. That is as lame an argued motive as they get.

Why did the judge ever let all the financial misdeeds evidence in? What does any of it have to do with the murder? Motive, idiot. They don’t have to prove motive! I don’t know what the South Carolina evidence code says about this but this is a constitutional question: a defendant’s right to a fair trial. SC law cannot stray too far afield from what I know the law to be from practicing in Florida.
