Who is Jon Horst?
Eichorst HorstWhen I first saw a photo of him, wanting to see what a person who fires a coach who was 30-13 and then hires Doc Rivers looks like, I thought in my mind's eye he looked like former University of Miami and University of Nebraska Athletic Director Shawn Eichorst. But it had been so long since I, or anybody on Earth, had seen Shawn Eichorst, that I had to do a Google search to make sure my mind's eye wasn't 20/400 as the real think is. My mind's eye was validated.
Eichorst-Horst. Only the "Eic" is different.
Horst was hired as Beer General Manager in 2017; Eichorst was fired by Nebraska in 2017.
Eichorst fired Bo Pelini, then hired Mike Riley, which led to Eichorst being fired.
Horst fired Adrian Griffin, he of the 30-13 record, then hired Doc Rivers, who is 3-6.
Horst was first hired as Director of Basketball Operations by Milwaukee at age 25. He was promoted to GM as a 34 year-old. With Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton acquired in 2013 Horst managed an inheritance that landed him on third base. Milwaukee’s owners considered that legacy enough and offered Horst a take-it-or-leave-it salary of $500,000 per year,
“That was insulting to every GM in our league,’’ an NBA executive said earlier this week. “It was the lowest salary for a GM in our league – by far. The next lowest (GM) was paid $1 million.’’
According to multiple sources, the likes of R.C. Buford, Daryl Morey, Bob Myers, Sam Presti, Danny Ainge and Donnie Nelson are paid between $8 million and $10 million per season.
