My Big Brother and I did not play What's My Line? yesterday and I got antsy and looked at the games and the spreads for my investment purposes. I am up $30 on the season.
First I looked at the AP top 25. Value is often found under the radar and these schools get all of the attention.
UNLV is 25th and play in Vegas against Syracuse. I don't think a lot of the "Orangemen" but I don't know a lot about them from the games they've played: the Ohio "Bobcats", W at home, Ga. Tech, when GT was supposably the 23rd-best team in the land, W at home. A loss to Stanford at home. (?) and a W over the Holy Christians at home, of course. Meh. This is their first game away from the Carrier Dome.
The "Runnin Rebels" on the other hand are ranked 25th for a reason, I just don't know what that reason is. 4-0, W's at Houston, over Utah TECH in Sin City, at Kansas and Fresno State at home. And their QB quit the team over NIL money owed. They are -6.5. Hard pass.
Paterno-Sandusky-UCLA Fight, Fight, Fight. -28 got my attention but they almost covered last week. I don't want to get a taste of the Lasch and the "Bruins" are bad. Pass.
Texas DEI-Mizzou. DEI -2.5. Really? I think the "Tigers" will win the game but the spread is too meager for me to play.
Lew-Smoo. Lew -7. At this point until they prove otherwise to me, they're trading on Jeff Brohm's promise. The Ponies on the other hand are pretty good: W's at Nevado (Reno), "Houston Christian" in D, Texas Christian same, and then a stampede of Half Ass U same. One L, close, to BYU same. This is their first year in the ACC, the first road game, such as it is. Pass.
Speaking of the Semiholes, they host Clem at Dick Campbell. It's Probation Time Again Y'all -14.5. IPTAY will run in up if they git the chance. I a feelin' they gonna do jis that but 14.5 is too wide a berth for me. Pass.
Wershington-Meeshagan. Husky Dogs -2.5. Surprised at that. 'Eens 10th in the country. Not sold on M's new coach just yet. Don't know anything about W. Pass.
Cal-UMG -10. Cal's pretty good. Beat The Plain Tiger Eagles in Deliverance. Lost 14-9 at Half Ass. Play my beloved "Panthers" on a lonely field beyond Fort Pitt on Oct. 12, btw. And I feel UMG is due for a fuck up. Last week, they really lost that game, but got an undeserved call, may have been their fuck up. And it went in the books as a W so now I'm spooked. They will win by hook or by crook. Investors are superstitious, as I am about PSU this week, but the "Gardeners" are a really fine foo'ball team. Fucking STOMPED the Alligators in the swamp, laid a double nickel on the Male Cows in Tampa last week. I'm not betting against them.
So the foregoing is the top-25. I then went to the ACC.
UVA-BC. 'Hoos -1. I just wrote that I was going to take BC but then remembered Tommy Castellanos missing last week's game and erased. Bill O'Brien said yesterday he'll have two QBs "ready to go", which doesn't comfort me. I'm going to leave this game until later in the week.
Course I'm not going to bet it but my Beloveds opened at -2.5 at Apple Chill. It's now 3. I think Pitt will win. Mackie Old Brown almost quit after the Jimmy Mad debacle and the team quit on him last week at Dook. Mack wrecked the team and the "Panthers" will win by more than three.
GaTech-Dook. Ramblin' Yellow Jackets -9. Nickel on Blue Demons.
Nebraska -7 Rutgers. Scarlet Pimpernel 4-0 (Howard, Akron, @ Va. Tech, Wershington). Cornholers 4 (UTEP, Colorado, No. Iowa, @ Purdoofus) and 1 (Illinoise). Not sold on either team's quality and 7 is a lot for two question mark teams. It's going to be low-scoring, Schiano's teams always play tough defense but don't score a lot of points. I'm actually a little nervous about Nebraska at home. Their one L was in Lincoln and they seem to play tight there going back to Scott Frost. They lost three times at home last year, including excruciating losses to Maryland and Iowa. Different year, they have Dominic Riola now, and an excellent coach. I don't know. A 7-point spread in a game that I think is going to be short on points is tempting. I hate Schiano and love Nebraska so it's hard for me to put money on the former and against the latter. Pass for now.
FU-UCF. Flarida at home against Central and Central is a 2.5-point favorite! I don't know about that, man. UCF has made this personal because Billy Naps dismissed critics who "live in their mother's basement in central Florida." Not AT Central Florida, in the central part of the state. So the "Golden Knights" have put a chip on their shoulder. I can't believe that spread. Alumni and fans of a team often bet with their heart and spleen, skewing the line in favor of the legacy program. Here, it has gone in reverse! Gus Malzahn can sure enough coach the pants off Billy Naps but who have the "Golden Knights" played? One team. They got pantsed at home by the Colorado "Golden Buffaloes" just last week. Like with Ruptures, I can't stand the "Gators" so it's difficult for me to put money on them. Pass for now.
That's all I got, Elles and Gees. One measly nickel and one, maybe two, more. I don't want to force anything.
