Why? One, because President Roosevelt wanted that moral and legal clarity. And two, because FDR was shrewd and had taken the measure of Hits. FDR knew that Hitler could not resist being the first to declare war on anybody. And so, on December 11, 1941, FOUR days after Pearl Harbor, THREE days after we declared war on Imperial Japan, Hitler declared war first, as Roosevelt knew he would, and gave Roosevelt the free hand to reduce the Third Reich to rubble if he wished. Why was it very difficult? Why not wait, with all the resources we had in place over there, to see if Iran did attack us. THEN, no one could have denied Trump his "epic fury" in retaliation.
But Sen. Mark Warner, the top Democrat on the Intelligence Committee, said “there was no imminent threat to the United States of America by the Iranians. There was a threat to Israel.”
Same thing David Sanger of nytimes said and wrote. You know what? I'm not buying this "explanation" that doesn't explain anything. I'm going to go with Trump wanting in on the glory.
Rubio, Hegseth and others briefed the lawmakers, but Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer said he found their answers “completely and totally insufficient.”
