Eric Cantor, the Majority Leader in the United States House of Representatives, was defeated tonight in the Republican primary election in Virginia. Mr. Cantor was beaten by Tea Party challenger David Brat,--How could I make that up?--a college professor. Mr. Cantor was an arch-conservative star of the Republican Party yet was defeated from the political right. My goodness gracious, nobody saw this coming and Brat won handily. My goodness gracious. This is the biggest upset in American politics in I don't know how long. Does this put the seat in play for the Democrats in November? I don't know.
