Jose Mourinho is United's third manager since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement at the end of the 2013 season. David Moyes enjoyed success at Everton before becoming United manager. The players though did not respect Moyes. "The Chosen One" after Ferguson? From Everton? The players didn't choose him. Moyes didn't see out the season. Louis van Gaal was next up. He was well-regarded also, although seemed in over his head and none too bright at United. He lasted two seasons.

Now we have Jose Mourinho. Absolutely one of the best managers in the world. Has won everywhere. Not an observer on the planet did not think Jose Mourinho would get the most out of the players and get United out of its malaise. And yet we have the same old, same old today: another "listless" performance, a "disjointed" team, the same descriptions that were used during van Gaal's and Moyes' terms.

When you're on your third manager in four seasons and the same problems recur, manifestly it is not the manager who needs replacing, it is the players. United should have gotten rid of Wayne Rooney and begun clearing out the squad before this. Mourinho needs to be unshackled, he needs to be spitting venom again, he needs to be given authority to give the "blow dryer" treatment--in public--to these players and to get rid of them if they don't get beyond listlessness.

Enough.
