Reporting from Washington
Putin “has much larger ambitions than Ukraine. He wants to, in fact, re-establish the former Soviet Union. That what this is about,” President Biden says.
Whale...Putin may have much larger ambitions than even THAT. He may be after the Big Fish, the U.S. No, wait, don't call the loony wagon for me. Putin this morning spoke in unusually pointed terms about America, calling us "an empire of lies." If his aim was just Ukraine or reestablishing the old Soviet Union, why would he single the U.S. out? He warned that anybody seeking to interfere in Ukraine would face consequences they have never faced before. Now, Russian forces have seized Chernobyl. Why? We don't know for sure but the state of the intelligence before that was that Putin's aim was to "decapitate" the Kyiv government and replace it with a puppet. With the seizure of Chernobyl the coalescing thought is that he is holding the NATO European countries hostage to a radioactive attack. Breach containment of the Chernobyl sarcophagus and you have a WMD attack on Europe and with that per NATO charter Article 51 World War III with the U.S. That might be what he has wanted all along.
Madness, you say. Yes, absolutely! To analysts who have observed and studied Putin he is showing signs of descending deeper and deeper into his paranoia and at bottom may be utter madness. Russia-based analysts were shocked and frightened at his television appearances, his "irrationality," his "hatred." Russia, not U.S. or U.N. U.N. can’t start WWIII and the first principle if our policy here is to aboid combat with Russian troops.
Putin has taken us a step and a half closer to WWIII in the last hour or so. Russian forces seized Chernobyl after heavy fighting with Ukraine. Apparently, they are holding the West, which includes the U.S., hostage. If we try to “interfere”, in Putin’s word, the Russians could break the Chernoby containment capsule and release radioactivity over Europe. That would be a WMD attack on the U.S.’s Nato allies and per treaty the U.S. would then be at war with Russia. Jennifer Griffin, Fox News national security correspondent said on the air today,
“This is a man — if you look in his eyes, you see someone who has gone completely mad.”
