Supreme Tweeter Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
In chronological order here are...I still can't get over it...the tweets:
Khamenei.ir @khamenei_ir
On outcome of recent talks, I’m neither for nor against it;according to officials, yet no measure has been taken& there’s no binding results.
Khamenei.ir @khamenei_ir
It's all about the details. The disloyal side may want to stab #Iran in the back over the details; It is too early to congratulate.
#IranTalks
Khamenei.ir @khamenei_ir
What's been done so far secures neither the main deal nor its contents nor is it even clear whether #talks will bear fruit & lead to a deal.
[True statement, that.]
Khamenei.ir @khamenei_ir
I support the negotiators& agree w a deal which ensures nation’s interests but no deal is favorable to a deal agnst #Iran interests&dignity.
Khamenei.ir @khamenei_ir
I trust our negotiators but I'm really worried
as the other side is into lying & breaching promises;
an example was White House fact sheet.
as the other side is into lying & breaching promises;
an example was White House fact sheet.
[State Dep't, State Dep't, not White House. Do you know how the U.S. gov't works? "Parameters" WAS a lie, I'll give you that.]
Khamenei.ir @khamenei_ir
Hours after the #talks, Americans offered a fact sheet that most of it was contrary to what was agreed. They always deceive &breach promises.
[Mr. Ayatollah, can you help a young Presbyterian out here, I have been trying to figure this out both from your side and deceive &breach side: "what was agreed?" WHAT was agreed?!]
Khamenei.ir @khamenei_ir
Islam& reason forbid us from acquiring nukes but #nuclear industry is a necessity for country’s future in energy, medicine, agriculture, etc.
["Islam& reason forbid us from acquiring nukes"...! Then why we start talking? Pakistan is infidel and unreasonable, no? Mr. Ayatollah, I want to be honest with you, unlike my fellow Americans, okay? CHRISTIANITY DOES NOT FORBID ACQUIRING NUKES! HA-HA! WE WIN, YOU LOSE, NOW YOU GET A BIG BRUISE!]
[So conventional, un-special monitoring is acceptable. Only Iranians can monitor Iran's security. So foreigners can conventionally, non-specially inspect/monitor...what? Tehran air quality? Trouser belt manufacturing plants? Prostitutes? Beards for lice? What was agreed?]

Moderate Muslims Make Obama Their Bitch.
Iran’s supreme leader declared on Thursday that all economic sanctions would have to be lifted on the day any nuclear agreement is signed and that military sites would be strictly off limits to foreign inspectors.
...[Ayatollah Ali Khamenei] said he saw no need to make a clear pronouncement on the agreement, because no signed agreement yet existed. “There was no need to take a position,” he said. “The officials are saying that nothing has been done yet and nothing is obligatory. I neither agree nor disagree.”
But he emphasized his longstanding position about the sanctions, saying that they “should be lifted all together on the same day of the agreement, not six months or one year later.”
(The ayatollah tweets. If I get twitter, can I be an ayatollah? How about a diplomat?...A blogger?)
"We will not sign any agreement, unless all economic sanctions are totally lifted on the first day of the implementation of the deal,” [Iranian President Hassan] Rouhani said.
...
[American Secretary of State John] Kerry and President Obama have been clear that sanctions would be suspended in phases, as Iran complies with its obligations. That is critical to American leverage...
-The New York Times.
This is embarrassing.

Morning.
Nothin' like startin' your day with the alarm goin' off when you're in the middle of a dream that you're performing oral sex on an ex-wife in a dry bathtub...Nothin', says I.
A Secret Service agent who got promoted made unwanted sexual advances on a female employee after a party celebrating his...elevation. He has now been demoted. No word if there will be a party for that.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei says there is "no binding agreement" with the West on nukes, and if it comes to pass he is "neither for it nor against it." Sub-supreme leader Muhammad Javad Zarif says he's fer it only if sanctions are lifted immediately.
Meanwhile, Premier Obama is in Jamaica visiting the Bob Marley museum. With the Secret Service along for security. Good luck with that.

Police Shooting of Walter Scott.
The most-read post today is "SAO Barquin Shooting Close Out Memo..." June 25, 2009 http://publicoccurrenc.blogspot.com/2009/06/sao-barquin-shooting-close-out-memo.html?m=0
I was interviewed three times by television stations, one in Colombia, right around the time of the Michael Brown Grand Jury announcement. There had also been another police shooting in Miami, Florida, I had not heard of it before the reporters told me about it, and the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office closed out their investigation without filing charges. I was told that no Miami area officer had been charged in a police-involved shooting since 1989. "Does that surprise you?" I was asked. It really did. That was an astounding statistic but I should not have been surprised. Miami prosecutors just will not file those cases. I was the lead prosecutor assigned to the 2004 Leonardo Barquin police shooting. I was removed from that and all future police shooting investigations because four days after the shooting I could not opine to the lead detective that it was a "clean shoot"...No, I am serious...Yes, I know it sounds ludicrous, I thought it was ludicrous at the time. It was outrageous. It is outrageous that they have gotten away with not charging any officer since 1989. But they have. Anyway, the Walter Scott police shooting is the reason for the popularity today of the Barquin police shooting post.
Officer Michael T. Slager of the North Charleston, South Carolina, Police Department has been arrested for murder in the shooting of Walter Scott. He has been fired. A citizen captured the shooting of Mr. Scott on video on his cell phone. You will read today, "This is why we need police body cams!," yes. And, "This officer would not have been arrested but for the video." Yes, demonstrably so, Slager was not arrested until the citizen's video was turned over to investigators. But...You knew there was going to be a "but" there...But remember, Eric Garner's police choke hold death was captured on video and a grand jury refused to indict. "Yes but yourself THIS video shows Slager shooting at Scott eight times! Shooting him in the back as Scott is running away unarmed!" Yes, it does. And a video showed an unarmed, defenseless Rodney King being beaten by several police officers, didn't it? State prosecutors filed that case and LOST. As a defense attorney I have won a case where a video clearly showed my client beating a man with a cane who my client had just knocked unconscious with a punch.
The point is, whatever the evidence, you need independent investigating police officers and independent prosecutors to evaluate it. Do we have that in North Charleston, South Carolina? Looks like it doesn't it? They arrested Officer Slager.
Consider this: what evidence does the video add to what investigators already knew? They would have known from an examination of Slager's service weapon how many shots he fired. They would have known from the autopsy how many times Scott was hit. They would have known that those shots were to Scott's back. They would have known Scott was unarmed. They would have known from an examination of Scott's clothing that none of the shots were close range. All the things the video shows! That non-video evidence should have resulted in Slager's arrest. It didn't!
You gotta have police investigators and prosecutors willing to bring charges. The prosecutors in my case, in the Rodney King case, were not wrong to bring the charges that they failed to convict on, they were right! The point is prosecutors will still lose cases with videotape, police body cameras will not guarantee convictions, they may not even guarantee arrests. You have to have intellectually honest, politically-uninfluenced prosecutors to ensure, at least, that the officer will be arrested. You don't have that everywhere in America. You did not have that in Staten Island, New York, it does not look to me that you had that in North Charleston, South Carolina, and you do not have that in Miami, Florida.
This is Public Occurrences.

I predict...There are 109 pageviews on this site since midnight GMT until the start of this post at 7:54 pm GMT--And I predict that with those last two posts and now with Kurt Westergaard's cartoon on the header there are not going to be many more. Google will not promote this site on "23taxi.ru" or the like today. That's what I predict.* **
*UPDATE, 8:15 GMT: there were no pageviews from 7:32 pm-8:03 pm GMT; 109 in the 16 1/2 hours before. Proportionately, there should be 163 by midnight. Let's see.
**UPDATE, midnight, GMT: 159. And NO referring sites or urls other than the search engines. Swine google. I am now going to take the Westergaard 'toon off the header and put it at the top of this post.

In admitted conformity with President Obama's practice not to use pejoratives such as "extremist" to modify Muslim. Maybe I'll get a White House invite out of this. Probably not.

Break Ice.
Do presidents ever joke with one another? Actually, they do! Mao used to poke fun at Kissinger with Nixon and Ford all the time. Kosygin used to tease Kissinger about Kissinger's taste for young women. Kissinger replied one time, "You're just a dirty old man."
Humor is a wonderful solvent for melting ice. Once in court I desperately needed something from a prosecutor. She was hard-nosed and I was negotiating on my knees. Outraged at my request she denied me and walked across the courtroom to obtain validation from her supervisor. I watched as she stood there unmoving, her supervisor doing all the talking. A minute later she reapproached me, bearing still erect, and said, "Well, I have been talked off my anger ledge," and smiled. I had to turn away in laughter. She was poking gentle fun at herself and it was an endearing moment. Prosecutors and defense attorneys frequently joke, even, maybe moreso, in periods of greatest tension, in trial.
Obama and Putin both have a sense of humor. That photograph of Hasani and Putin, so reminding of Putin's body language with Obama, could be the subject of some good-natured fun-making.

Breakdown.
Reading the president's sales pitch to Steve Inskeep of National Public Radio (It very much hurts my feelings that Public Occurrences, so similar to National Public Radio, has not yet received an invite to the White House. It makes me feel we don't have any influence.), I want to know the president's explanation for the change from all of his prior statements that "A nuclear Iran cannot be contained." The U.S. goal now is containment for 10-15 years.
I think I know why the president changed: he does not have the stomach to "bomb, bomb, bomb; bomb-bomb Iran." Apparently he does not have the stomach even for a cyber-attack as he and the Israelis unleashed at Natanz in 2009, destroying 1/5th of the centrifuges. Obama only has the stomach to posture about using military force. For example, when things hit a particular snag in Lausanne the president ostentatiously ordered the Pentagon to get ready its most powerful bunker-busting bomb for a potential strike at Fordow. That was just muscle-flexing and the Iranians knew it. Obama wants these negotiations to succeed even if it means Iran gets a nuclear weapon. It will be somebody else's problem then:
"...the option of a future president to take action if in fact they try to obtain a nuclear weapon is undiminished."
"If they haven't changed, we still have the options available to me — or available to a future president that I have available to me right now."

PUNT!
What happened to change the president's mind? There is a stark difference between his 2012 UN speech and his 2013 UN speech and repeatedly he has pointed to the election of Hassan Rouhani in 2013 as a turning point, but the president has never said what changed in Iran with Rouhani's election that was so profound that he is now willing to let Iran have the bomb 10-15 years from now when Rouhani is out of office. The president has never explained either of those things: what changed with Rouhani's election and why nukes for Iran after Rouhani is gone! That doesn't even make sense.
Breakout.
"What is a more relevant fear would be that in year 13, 14, 15, they have advanced centrifuges that enrich uranium fairly rapidly, and at that point the breakout times would have shrunk almost down to zero."

I'll tell ya, there have been some mighty strange goins on in these parts lately. Russia led pageviews by country today with 32, not unusual. Unusual though were "referring sites" and "referring urls:"

-nanoagro.net. Fertilizer, farm products.

I do not see publicoccurrenc.blogspot.com anywherez on those sites and cannot fathom what it might be doing there. Strange goins on.

Boy, I uh...Ha-ha, Boy...Maybe the blunt force trauma to the head has affected my memory, fact-checking with ex-Mrs. Harris Numero Uno or ex-Mrs. Harris Numero Dos would be conclusive, however I am pretty sure there was no "VIVA Ben" at that particular mistake on my part.

A Rape in Print.
Below are excerpts from the Columbia Journalism Review's report on Rolling Stone's discredited and now retracted story "A Rape on Campus:"
Rolling Stone's repudiation of the main narrative in "A Rape on Campus" is a story of journalistic failure that was avoidable. The failure encompassed reporting, editing, editorial supervision and fact-checking. The magazine set aside or rationalized as unnecessary essential practices of reporting that, if pursued, would likely have led the magazine's editors to reconsider publishing Jackie's narrative so prominently, if at all. The published story glossed over the gaps in the magazine's reporting by using pseudonyms and by failing to state where important information had come from.
In late March, after a four-month investigation, the Charlottesville, Va., police department said that it had "exhausted all investigative leads" and had concluded, "There is no substantive basis to support the account alleged in the Rolling Stone article."3"
...
"There has been other collateral damage. "It's completely tarnished our reputation," said Stephen Scipione, the chapter president of Phi Kappa Psi, the fraternity Jackie named as the site of her alleged assault. "It's completely destroyed a semester of our lives, specifically mine. It's put us in the worst position possible in our community here, in front of our peers and in the classroom."
"Last July 8, Sabrina Rubin Erdely, a writer for Rolling Stone, telephoned Emily Renda, a rape survivor working on sexual assault issues as a staff member at the University of Virginia. Erdely said she was searching for a single, emblematic college rape case that would show "what it's like to be on campus now … where not only is rape so prevalent but also that there's this pervasive culture of sexual harassment/rape culture," according to Erdely's notes of the conversation.1"
That is how Ruby began her work, that is how Columbia begins its audit of what went wrong. Ruby went in search of a story to fit her preconceived notions, to show "what it's like to be on campus now," That is campus, singular, that's the genus Campus, that's any campus and every campus. I, Sabrina Rubin Erdely, already know what it is like: being on any campus now is to be at a place "where not only is rape so prevalent" but also where "there's this pervasive culture of sexual harassment/rape culture." THAT is outrageous. That is where Ruby started and a person who starts there is starting on the road to smear, to disaster.

It was written on my mind
Like the back of an envelope
Rehearsed and very carefully in reach
My cool cucumber non-committal speech
Then your face was full of me
And then your eyes were too
You knew that I knew that you knew that
I knew that you knew that I knew
I regained my self-control and I tried to close my big fat mouth
Before 'I love you' fell out on the floor
Like the back of an envelope
Rehearsed and very carefully in reach
My cool cucumber non-committal speech
?
That I wrote while hanging out down at the beach
That I wrote while hanging out down at the beach
:)
And I shivered from the cold of the ice in my granite heart
Knowing that you didn't have a prayer
And I shivered from the cold of the ice in my granite heart
Knowing that you didn't have a prayer
!
And then I rang the bell and you were there
(nervous)
And darlingThen your face was full of me
And then your eyes were too
LOL
And I knew, that you knew that I knew thatYou knew that I knew that you knew that
I knew that you knew that I knew
WHAT?!! FALLING DOWN LOL.
That, friends and enemies, is the songwriting of Jimmy Webb ("By the Time I Get to Phoenix," "MacArthur Park," et al.), 1968, "Montage," written for the movie "How Sweet It Is" starring James Garner and Debbie Reynolds, recorded as a single by "The Love Generation." The Love Generation! Omg.
Who writes like that?! That song is something pop songs almost never are: funny and self-aware. There are a lot of country songs that do that but not many pop songs. And the instrumentals reinforce the wry lyrics: light at the beginning--Ba ba-ba Ba ba-ba Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba--and then the Mystic Chords when the girl answers the door--the cymbals Crash!-- and he folds like a cheap suitcase. Or, as Mr. Webb writes it:
Before 'I love you' fell out on the floor
ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!
I didn't feel like Batman anymore
You can HEAR laughter in the background!
I hit my bloody elbow on the door
NO!
It was written on my mind
Like the back of an envelope
Rehearsed and very carefully in reach
My cool cucumber non-committal speech
That I wrote while hanging out down at the beach
And I shivered from the cold of the ice in my granite heart
Knowing that you didn't have a prayer
And then I rang the bell and you were there and darling
Then your face was full of me
And then your eyes were too
And I knew, that you knew that I knew that
You knew that I knew that you knew that
I knew that you knew that I knew
I regained my self-control and I tried to close my big fat mouth
Before 'I love you' fell out on the floor
I didn't feel like Batman anymore
I hit my bloody elbow on the door
And then your brother asked if I had money for a haircut
And the pimple on my neck began to hurt
Suddenly I wished I'd changed my shirt and darling
Then your face was full of me
And then your eyes were too
And I knew that you knew that I knew that
You knew that I knew that you knew that
I knew that you knew that I knew
And then your brother asked if I had money for a haircut
OH!
And the pimple on my neck began to hurt
Ha-ha-ha!
Suddenly I wished I'd changed my shirt and darling...
Tremendous, TREMENDOUS! Jimmy Webb, here's to you.
Listen for your self, and smile, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_N6opXzcWw. Follow along with the full lyrics (sans editorializing) below.

"Parameters," a production of the U.S. State Department which is solely responsible for its content. Take only as directed. Ask your doctor. Member FDIC.
"Parameters" was put out by the U.S. State Department. Here it is right on their website http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2015/04/240170.htm.
It is not 100% clear whether any of the other P5+1 countries joined in some way. They did not sign it, nobody signed it, I do not know if other P5+1 countries posted it on their websites--Is this what this world is coming to, posting things on websites?...It is? Fine! Is this world coming to just posting diplomatic "things" on websites, no need to "sign on the bottom line" just go on blogspot.com, "We're cool, dude" and post it? How about Facebook and Twitter? Why don't we just tweet things from now on. Italy and France at least issued their own statements and the EU and Iran had that joint press conference.
It is 100% clear that Iran did not agree in any way to "Parameters" which has it that sanctions are to be "suspended" or "phased" out and will "snap back" if Iran violates. That was not Muhammad Javad Zarif's understanding! Zarif wrote on Twitter--Is this what this world...? Oh my God.--Thursday night,
"US will cease the application of ALL nuclear-related secondary economic and financial sanctions. Is this gradual?"
"And an English-language version of the political understanding released by Iran's state-run Press TV says that following a written deal sanctions 'will be immediately lifted all at once.'" http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3024689/Cracks-emerge-nuclear-deal-Iran-timing-sanctions-relief.html
Maybe Kerry tweeted Zarif back, I don't know!, for Zarif then twitted:
"The EU will TERMINATE the implementation of ALL nuclear-related economic and financial sanctions.' How about this?"
How about that, Foggy Bottoms? Said a spokesperson,
"Keep in mind this isn't the final agreement. The conversations inside the room were focused on the substance, not necessarily what was put down on paper and who signed on to it. We had discussions with them about what we would say publicly, and they let us know they would say things publicly. And I'm not really concerned about...how they will sell this back at home."
:)
So the conversations in the room are the substance not what was put in writing? Novel idea!
Then why put anything in writing, why the "Parameters" "fact-sheet" at all? That's what Zarif wants to know too (another tweet),
"The solutions are good for all, as they stand. There is no need to spin using 'fact sheets' so early on.'

WHAT FRIGGING SOLUTIONS? What did you twits agree on? We, Americans at least, have a right to know. YOU KNOW?
This whole enterprise should be code-named "Operation Sandbag," you know why? I'll tell you why: The Obamas desperately wanted to get something on paper so that they could forestall congressional sanctions that are coming up. They could not get anything agreed with Iran so they put out "Parameters" alone. The consent manufacturers (God bless the New York Post and Amir Taheri) at the Adults' Table immediately put out laudatory articles and the Obamas' opponents were slow to respond. The consensus "narrative" became that a "deal" had been struck and you're either fer it (responsible adults) or you're agin' it (irresponsible children, Republicans). I hope on the Sunday talk shows the Republicans CHANGE THIS NARRATIVE for there is no deal! There is no deal to be for or against and Congress should impose additional sanctions on Iran.

The Iran thing is completely out of the news! It is nowhere in the top entries in Google News' categories. Well...It shall soon be back at the top. Easter, Shmeaster, the Sunday talk shows are all devoted to it. And after I break my fast there shall be the belated post from last night hereabouts. This is what I shall discuss and I hope the talking heads do:
Is there an "agreement" on anything? Unless somebody can convincingly show that there is, don't use the word! Or any synonym like "deal."

In the U.S.&A. scholars from Duke University under the tutelage of Professor Michael Shasheffski will play the University of Wisconsin on...Monday night(?) for the National Championship of Short Pants Basketball. The "Blue Angels" defeated Michigan State and the "Boogers" beat the Kentucky "Mercenaries" Saturday to advance to their Final Examinations.

Easter couldn't get here soon enough to suit this wascilly wabbit--end of Lent; I gave up swearing in print for 6 weeks! Severely restricted my ability to communicate. Fell off the wagon three times, I think. Two f-bombs and a g.d. Was writing a post last night that was gonna send me straight to aych-ee-double-el and stopped. Wait. One more day.
