Look at this

I have always understood that the death interval, that between hospitalization and death, is, as a general guide, two weeks. I have read that to know where we're going it's best to look at hospitalizations somewhere within a standard deviation of that general guide. I chose two weeks on the nose from Feb. 4, January 22. As you can sort of see even on a graphic display, Jan. 22 was just off the peak of O-hospitalizations. In fact, it was just the second day on the downturn from the peak on Jan. 20. There is much elasticity in the general rule of the H-D interval, and if it is off by a standard deviation of, say, one week, then our outlook is drastically changed. If the H-D interval is three weeks then our key date is Jan. 15, 154,698, and Deaths are heading up, to a proportion of H's Jan. 20 peak of 159,544. If one week, then the key date is Jan. 29, 146,013 and Deaths should have been trending down since Jan. 21. They have not been and I am reasonably certain that the H-D interval is closer to three weeks. If it's four weeks then we are hurtin' for certain. The Deaths graph however is not smooth as C's and H's are; it's ragged, and a little wobbly and even wobbled down the last two its. of the 7-day. Reading too close but that suggests to me the H-D interval is closer to three than four weeks. Saturday is the last day of the full reporting week. Sunday and Monday are lag days. I would expect...I don't know what to expect. The rule suggests we have not reached peak Death yet and will not for five more days, but the last two its. of the 7-day have been down on full reporting days. I expect Deaths will be higher in 4-5 days than they are now and then will start a wobbly decline.

Be in favor of throwing the Gopies one of them retreat things where they can have their “legitimate political discourse” ev’ry weekend till kingdom come, I would.

COVID-19 BIDEN +380 (Feb. 4)

That lede and article are date-lined today, Feb. 4, at 7:07 pm.

You can't say that Quasis, not if your article is based on your Deaths graph:

It may be ephemeral statistical noise but the fact is Deaths for the last four iterations of the 7-day average daily Deaths show that Deaths peaked on Feb. 2. These are the averages:

Feb. 1, 2,636.
Feb. 2, 2,660
Feb. 3, 2,632
Feb. 4, 2619

None of those dates, Tuesday through Friday, are statistical lag days. It's not much, a drop of 41/day over seven days, but tell the families of the 287 folks who didn't die that their loved one's survival is "not much." Not good reporting, NYT.

The numbers:

14-day changes

-56% Cases
-19% Hospitalizations
+21% Deaths

7-day daily averages:

317,764 Cases. Down.
128,543 Hospitalizations. Down.
2,619 Deaths. Down. We are 723 away from the all-time 7-day daily record of 3,342 set on Jan. 26, 2021. On Feb. 2 we were 684 Deaths from Peak Death. You really can't say that Quasis and you shouldn't have.

You know why gas became the Nazi's favorite thing? Because Himmler, wanting to see an execution in person, ordered an old-style firing squad of 100 in Minsk in August, 1942, and almost fainted. When two Jewish women weren't killed immediately by the bullets Himmler "became hysterical." It was hard on him. (Shirer The Rise and Fall 962-3)

Never been anything like the Nazis, guys, never.

WojBomb: Justise on the move again

The Los Angeles "Clippers" traded Justise Winslow (Eric Bledsoe, Keon Johnson and a future 2nd) to Portlandia for Norman Powell and Robert Covington. The "Trail Blazers" will be Justise's third team in three years since playing five seasons in Miami. I know Riles was always high on Justise but I can't but think that he maybe has some misgivings about passing on Devin Booker.

How Hitler?

How did Adolph Hitler come to be? Was he the Antichrist?

The history of Germany and Prussia provided the conditions for a brutal dictator to sprout but fertile fields are not the same as causation. World War I caused World War II. It did not cause Hitler. Throughout human history barbaric dictatorship is the rule, not the exception. Mass murder, genocide, cannibalism, slavery--those too are "family values" when the family is humanity. Hitler was "extreme" as Genghis Khan, Caligula and the other "greats" of human barbarity of antiquity were and Hitler had the "skill set" that they did not have: foremost, German efficiency and modern technology. Was Hitler "merely" extreme but with better tools? I don't think so. Warsaw and Leningrad were to be razed to the ground and their populaces left without food. Murder by starvation was a deliberate tactic of the New Order, the plan partially implemented to systematically exterminate the peoples of Europe and to make those not exterminated outright slave laborers of the Reich. This was the plan of the New Order for the entire world. It knows no equal in human history. It was not "merely" inhuman, it was anti-human.

Antichrist: i believe that Jesus of Nazareth was the finest human being to ever walk the face of the earth. I do not believe that he was a demigod. I believe that Adolph Hitler was the opposite of Jesus, the Antichrist. Human beings have discarded their moral core whenever it has been convenient. Hitler though was anti-morality. The antecedents were there, in Nietzsche. They are just additional fertilizer for the fields, however, they do not provide causation. Nietzsche has been read by millions of people, none but one became a Hitler.

And why did so many barbarians come to power in the 20th century after the birth of Christ? Stalin, Hitler, Mao Zedong, Tojo, Pol Pot, Idi Amin, I am surely forgetting some, why were the fields of the 20th century so fertile as to germinate such? When an essayist asks these many questions it means he does not have answers to any of them, and indeed this humble essayist does not. Unquestionably, even with so many competitors in the 20th century, indeed in all of human history, Adolph Hitler was, superlatives fail here, the best I can do is "most evil" human being. He seems more a visitation on humanity of an evil Antichrist from the Apocalypse than merely "human, all too human."

FT-OT "Jurassic Park Birds" 127 "Male Cows" 120

With the loss coupled with the MIA win (112-95) Chi and MIA are tied for 1st place again, Chi having a 4-thousandth point advantage.Tonto is hot! Still in 7th place though.

Miami plays at CHAZZ (28-24, 5th place, 4.5 games behind Chi and MIA Saturday night. The distance from an East Side Penthouse to a suburban duplex on Staten Island is mighty short.

End 3Q 66-88

The "Heat" outscored the "Spurs" by 2 in the 1Q, by 8 in the 2nd, and by 12 in the 3rd. Kyle has played, 25'; he has 2 points, 4 asts, and 6 t.o.s. No rust. His is the only dystopian line in the Miami box score. The team has shot extremely well, 52.4% (45.5%), and 100% from the free throw line. San Antonio blows...it's now 68-91. They have shot 35.4% (24.1%). The "Heat" snap a three-game losing skid.

-Out-

HOOO DOGGIE 64-86, 1:36 3Q

End 1Q 19-21

This game is a reset from Dec. 29, I don't know why it was reset and tonight was moved up an hour and a half because of an ice storm in San Antone. Really.

Wheels On :o 17-19, 2:01 1Q, "Heat" Full T.O.

Donut out, Swish Robinson in. Duncan now 3/6 (3/5). Unlike the teams we have played the last several games San Antonio blows, 19-33.

Wheels Off 15-9, 4:04 1Q

So far Kyle has gotten a T, Jimmy just got called for a foul and then got a T and Donut has played 6' and is 1/4 (1/3).

COVID-19 BIDEN+378 (Feb. 2)

Looking at the three graphs side-by-side it appears that the Hospitalizations relative decline is less than half the decline in Cases. 7-day average daily Cases peaked on Jan. 15. H's peaked on Jan. 20. Hmm, I don't really understand that. Let's try a different way of understanding: H's on Feb. 2 were 83.8% of their peak. Let's first determine when Cases were 83.8% of their peak. The closest we can get is Jan. 24, 82.7% of peak O.

     Cases       Hospitalizations               Deaths

If you truncate the C's graph as reasonably close as you can to Jan. 24 you get this. Now does that look like the current H's graph? It does.

So where was I going with this?...I had in mind the C-H interval. Jan. 15 to 20 is a bit tight from my understanding. Nine days, Jan. 24-Feb. 2 is okay. Anyway. I don't know why I thought that was important.

Back to a more important thing, the H-D interval. Should be a week or two. Thirteen days from H's first O-decline D's are still rising. Really should have been showing a decline by now.

7-day average daily Deaths on Feb. 2 were 2,658. That is only 684 Deaths from our all-time peak. It's going to be close. Deaths rose over a two-week period 35%. That shouldn't be either.

Another swig.

Cases were an average 385,425, down 49%. H's were 133,626, -16%. Huge difference there, 16-to-49. Why are D's still rising, and at such a horrific rate? I don't know. If D's numbers don't go south quickly we will exceed the all-time high.

U.S. Exposes What It Says Is Russian Effort to Fabricate Pretext for Invasion

Officials said Russia was planning a fake video showing an attack by Ukrainians on Russian territory or Russian speakers in eastern Ukraine.

The Bidens are just all OVER this. Clap out to them. This is exactly what Putin did in 2014 in Ukraine--and what Adolph Hitler did in Czechoslovakia and Poland in 1939.

"Raptors" 110 "Heat" 106 (2/1) Devilish Details

Bam had a monster game Tuesday night: 32 points on a team-high 17 shots (do not ever remember Bam Bam leading the team in shots), 13 of those makes, 11 rebounds in 35'.

Jimmy played a team-high 40' but couldn't shoot, 3/10 (0/3) 10/10 free throws, 8 rebbes, 12 asts to 3 t.o.'s, a sparkling 4-1 ratio. Gabe, the nominal PG, had only 2 asts and 1 t.o. in only 25'. He couldn't shoot either, nor could Duncan who has reverted from Swish Robinson to Donut. Both were 1/6 from the floor, Gabe 1/4 from range, Donut 1/5. Donut played 15' before being yanked by Spo. Expect Donut to be traded by the deadline a week from now. The Composer (33') and the Hero (29') saw more p.t. than two of the starters. The former had 9 pnts on 3/7 (3/7), the latter, also playing the point, had 18 on 7/12 (2/5), 5 asts but 3 t.o.'s. As a team we shot well (48.7%), just not from range (26.7%) and that's where the game was lost. Toronto shot 46.2% behind the arc. It's obvious that Spoelstra went to his only consistent scoring option, and when that is your workhorse center on a team of shooters, that is opportunistic but with some desperation admixed.Take away Bam's shots and makes and we converted .410, which isn't shooting well. We couldn't stop Gary Trent Jr. Tuesday. A shooting guard he went off for 33 on 11/20 (6/10). It looks like Spo had no one to turn to to defend Trent. Probably just about everybody was tried, including Jimmy and Caleb, our second-best open-court defender, but Caleb played only 14' and was a -14 for the game. Our SG counterparts, Donut, played only 15' and was a +/-0 and the Composer did play enough to be plausible defender and was only -2 for the game. Whoever tried, nothing worked on Gary Trent.

I'm not surprised Jimmy is questionable tonight, not only because he's Jimmy but because he played 40' and in the 3OT loss to this same team last Friday night he played 52' and missed the next game. If we lose tonight we have our new season losing streak. We don't have enough folks, not to contend for a championship, not even to beat these four ~.500 teams. One other ominous note. We have gotten blown out in each game we have played against two of the teams on our tails. Ninth-place Beans beat us by 17 at home on Nov. 4 and then by 30 in the Massacre up there Monday night. Fifth-place Cleve beat us by 26 at Bang Bus on Dec. 1 and by 11 (actually not a blow out but a double-digit loss) on Lake Mistake on Dec. 13.

Good morning small chickens.

K-Lo is back but is “questionable” to play tonight in San Antone while he shakes off the rust, as is Irritated Big Toe for his irritated big toe, Peej (knee), and C-Mart (sore Achilles).

God damn I didn't even see that the "Heat" played Tuesday night in Toronto. They lost, their third in a row, only the second time this season they've had as long as a three-game losing streak. Since I didn't know they played I don't know the details, besides the score 110-106,--who played, who didn't, who shot well, who didn't. I wrote after the blow-out at Beans that that made two in a row and that we had only lost even two straight five times (including the three) this season. The team had me looking over my shoulder. I feared the annual "Heat" Swoon was upon us, it can come at any time, and wrote that I wouldn't be surprised if we played .500 ball from last Friday night through the rest of the season. I wrote that I also took the addition of several new faces as the canary dying in the coal mine at 601 Biscayne. Well, we're 0-3 and have lost the first two on this six-game road trip. We're still in second place, now a game behind Chi and one game out of fifth place. This is indeed ominous.

BillyNaps Army Reinforcements?

The snake oil salesman didn't get the takers that even his reviled predecessor did! No, BillyNaps 2022 recruiting class ranked 19th; Dan Mullen's last class was rated 12th. Better ask the A.D. for more money for recruiters.

Oh

Texas A&M put together the best recruiting class in college tackle football today, people are calling it historic, and maybe the most decorated class ever. It never occurred to me that there was anything more than Dumbo Fisher's recruiting nous and the lure of A&M going on.

I forgot NIL: name, image, likeness. Kids can now be paid for use of those of themselves. Nick Saban said to a group of prospective recruits (in Texas too) last year that Bryce Young had been paid $80,000 in NIL fees before ever playing a down for the "Crimson Tide."

Tellingly, Fisher has not denied using NIL deals to get recruits, he has questioned the amount, and has argued that kids were always paid, just not legally. Texas A&M generates more revenue than any other college football program in the nation, but the schools don't pay, businessmen and the schools' boosters pay.

This is a problem that the big-time football colleges and universities are going to have deal with the best they can. NIL payments are legal, the kids are entitled to them and the schools are not. But man do they tilt the competitive balance. The rich are going to get richer and the gap between them and the others is going to yawn. Just the way that it does in a market economy.

What Putin Can Do

Keep a plausible invasion size force on Ukraine's border. 100,000 isn't sustainable but some lesser figure in the thousands would be. We just sent 3,000 troops to NATO. Putin says he feels threatened by NATO expansion. I understand NATO has never attacked the Soviet Union or Russia. Therefore I understand that the fear of an attack is unwarranted. I also understand that there has never been plausible justification for NATO's expansion when the Soviet Union ended and the Soviet satellite countries were free. I understand Russian fears of encirclement. Even if you have buried the hatchet with your neighbor four doors down, why does he still have his guns pointed in your direction and why is he buying up houses ever closer to you? Would it quiet your concerns if with every property gobble your neighbor said, "It's not aimed at you."? I know that we lied to Gorbachev and his Russian successors about NATO expansion. When you combine no plausible justification with lies your neighbor's suspicions don't look paranoid. Putin has got guns pointed in Western Europe's direction, too. He has got them pointed at the continental U.S. But if medium-range missiles were positioned in Ukraine Moscow would be in range within minutes.

Reportedly the U.S. has told Putin that it will not install missiles in Ukraine. But we will not commit to not expanding NATO to Ukraine. Fine. So what Putin can do is keep an invasion-sized force on Ukraine's border permanently. That would cause Ukraine second thoughts about moving into the European Union, much more becoming a NATO member. An invasion-sized force would also give the U.S. a taste of the fear and distrust that Russia has toward the U.S. and NATO.

COVID-19 BIDEN+377 (Feb. 1)

 14-day changes

-44% Cases
-13% Hospitalizations
+39% Deaths. Over two weeks Deaths have increased from 30% in the Jan. 25 through Jan. 31 to 39% in the Jan. 26 through Feb. 1 iteration. Deaths are continuing to rise faster than previously, which is nauseating to record. Feb. 1 is the first full reporting day of the new week which lasts through Feb. 5 before the lag sets in again. I don't expect Deaths over the next four days to decrease.

7-day daily averages

424,077. Cases. Down over 32k/day
138,674. Hospitalizations. Down over 2k/day
2,636 Deaths. Up 78/day. That is too much, obviously, but it is too much from a lag day to a full reporting day and relatively is not as bad as it could be. Will we exceed the all-time record of 3,342 on Jan. 26, 2021? We are withing seven hundred and Deaths will continue to climb. May sense is we will not.
                                                                                 Cases graph
A needle, pretty sharp needle.

H's graph
A very dull needle.

Deaths graph

A dangerous, serrated knife, sharp point, but not uniform, wobbling from Jan. 18 to present. I don't know, there is still a massive block of cases moving through the system. The Jan. 5 peak of 806,705 is a few days from being resolved in Deaths away. It is plausible that we could hit 3,000/deaths/per day and the margin of error to the record 3,280 is slight. Biden's incompetent handling of Omicron puts the record in reasonable view.

Putin Signals Openness to Diplomacy While Blaming U.S. for Crisis

MOSCOW — President Vladimir V. Putin said on Tuesday that the United States was trying to pull Russia into an armed conflict over Ukraine that his government did not want and signaled he was prepared to engage in more diplomacy...
...
Mr. Putin said he hoped that “dialogue will be continued” over Russia’s security demands, refraining from repeating his earlier threat to take unspecified “military-technical” measures...Mr. Putin appeared to be trying to dial down tensions slightly...
...
Mr. Putin’s carefully calibrated comments spoke to...the pivotal decisions the longtime Russian leader faces in the coming weeks. Military analysts say that maintaining Russia’s current military buildup, which involves units from thousands of miles away, will become increasingly expensive and logistically challenging.

Sending some of them back to base before securing a diplomatic victory could be read as a sign of weakness, while launching an attack on Ukraine would be likely to cost many lives and have wide-ranging consequences.

                                                          Bravo Biden!

Putin just realized Biden gave him no way out. He made Putin his bitch.

COVID-19 BIDEN+376 (Jan. 31)

Cases are down over 42% over two weeks; Hospitalizations down 11%; Deaths up an enormous—but expected—30%. With H’s falling by double digits it’s only a matter of two-three weeks, if that, before Deaths fall.

7-day daily averages:

456,831 Cases. Down.
140,440 Hospitalizations. Down.
2,558 Deaths. Up.

American Exceptionalism

(NYT)

I gather that the Times 7-day Deaths number did not go down through Jan. 31 (due to reporting lag) and that the Death number through today, Tuesday, a non-lag day, is going to be higher when it comes out, which it may already have? *Updated 8:49 p.m. No, average daily deaths Jan. 25 through 31st fell slightly due to reporting lag. And no, the number for Feb. 1 has not come out yet.

The ballooning death toll has defied the hopes of many Americans that the less severe Omicron variant would spare the United States the pain of past waves. Deaths have now surpassed the worst days of the autumn surge of the Delta variant, and are more than two-thirds as high as the record tolls of last winter, when vaccines were largely unavailable.
...
Deaths in Britain, for example, are one-fifth of last winter’s peak, and hospital admissions are roughly half as high.
...
...the number of dead has clouded a sense of optimism, even as Omicron cases recede. And it has laid bare weaknesses in the country’s response, scientists said.

“Death rates are so high in the States — eye-wateringly high,” said Devi Sridhar, head of the global public health program at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, who has supported loosening coronavirus rules in parts of Britain. “The United States is lagging.”

Since this article isn't making excuses I assume (I have not checked) that it is not written by the woman whose reporting on the virus I do not trust...No, it is not: By  Benjamin Mueller and

...Since Dec. 1, when health officials announced the first Omicron case in the United States, the share of Americans who have been killed by the coronavirus is at least 63 percent higher than in any of these other large, wealthy nations, according to a New York Times analysis of mortality figures.

In recent months, the United States passed Britain and Belgium to have, among rich nations, the largest share of its population to have died from Covid over the entire pandemic.

For all the encouragement that American health leaders drew from other countries’ success in withstanding the Omicron surge, the outcomes in the U.S. have been markedly different. Hospital admissions in the U.S. swelled to much higher rates than in Western Europe...Americans are now dying from Covid at nearly double the daily rate of Britons and four times the rate of Germans.
...
“The U.S. stands out as having a relatively high fatality rate,” said Joseph Dieleman, an associate professor at the University of Washington who has compared Covid outcomes globally. “There’s been more loss than anyone wanted or anticipated.”

As deadly as the Omicron wave has been, the situation in the United States is far better than it would have been without vaccines. ...
...
Chief among the reasons is the country’s faltering effort to vaccinate its most vulnerable people at the levels achieved by more successful European countries.
...
Unvaccinated people make up a majority of hospitalized patients. But older people without booster shots also sometimes struggle to shake off the virus, said Dr. Megan Ranney, an emergency physician at Brown University, leaving them in need of extra oxygen or hospital stays.
...
Americans began dying from Covid at higher rates than people in western European countries starting in the summer, after the United States had fallen behind on vaccinations. During the Delta surge in the fall, Americans were dying from Covid at triple the rate of Britons.
...
As Delta and now Omicron have hammered the United States, they said, so many people have become sick that those who survived are emerging with a certain amount of immunity from their past infections.

Although it is not clear how strong or long-lasting that immunity will be, especially from Omicron, Americans may slowly be developing the protection from past bouts with Covid that other countries generated through vaccinations — at the cost, scientists said, of many thousands of American lives.

...“I think we’re now likely to start[ing to get]...synchronized [with the rest of the rich world] going forward.”

We're Special Ed in our class.

Nobody does it better than the New York Times (except that one woman). Nobody.

You see! We’re “goading” him.   Biden’s press conference, a week or so ago: “I think he’s going to invade” (brilliant); Yesterday at the UN—The Soviet…sorry Russian ambassador looked right at ours and said, “You WANT this to happen” and then the deposition answer from heaven, we’re not going to invade. GOTCHA!. Now, after he invades, he has to go back to the U.N. and say “My troops, they were just there on winter break! North Beach! I didn’t really want to invade but those meany Bidens made fun of us and said we're all stupid and eat boogers so I HAD to invade!"😂  Then today, the Great Man Hisself, first time in a while he has deigned speak about Ukraine (“Cuz the Bidens MADE me. BAD Joey!)”: "The Americans are goading us to invade. What was I going to do with all of my troops? *frowny face*” Oh, the Bidens really got him.

Now, when Putin invades, Biden's hand for the unprecedented sanction of cutting Russia off from the global financial system is immeasurably strengthened.

I don’t think Putin can resist. I am confident he will rise to the bait. He'll just walk his country into economic and financial ruin. He is on the horns of a real lose-lose dilemma though. What IS he going to do with all of those troops? lol WHAT is his guy going to say at the U.N. after he invades? Nothing credible, only laughable. Hauling them before the U.N. Security Council and "goading" them into saying BEFORE they invade that they're not going to invade--that was the master chess move! What was the Security Council going to do after an attack? Nothing, not with the Russians and Chinese holding vetoes. So the brilliance of this move was recognizing that Russia and China can't veto a Security Council meeting and that even a Security Council meeting gives you a golden opportunity on the world stage to make your case. That the Americans did!

Pack ST coach out after playoff blunders

I didn't even know Pack was a state.
The "Heat" loss last night was by thirty, and to a team, like several recently, right around .500. Player absences have not been the reason for "Heat" wins this season, duh, and they should not be the explanation for these, now two, losses in a row to teams with nearly identical records. They have lost two or more straight only five times this season, about once a month: three Nov. 8-11 on a West Coast swing, two Nov. 29-Dec. 1, two Dec. 4-6, two Jan. 2-3, and this, Jan. 29-31. Have the "Heat" hit a wall? One where a combo of other teams catching on to new "phenoms", key player absences and mid-season doldrums and fatigue are dousing the fire? Two games is too small a sample size to make judgments but a blow-out loss to a .500 team is alarming.

So too is Pat Riley and Erik Spoelstra dipping into their bag of wild-cards again. Ever heard of Haywood Highsmith? How about Aric Holman? Nik Stauskas? Those are new additions to the roster. They join Kyle Guy and the famed M. Garrett called back up to the big club. Chris Silva is also back. 601 Biscayne sees what we all see--and more--that the nucleus of this team cannot win a championship and that the roster has hit a wall and is leveling off. They have had temporary success grabbing unknowns and letting them rip until the rest of the Association learns about their games. They are hoping that Highsmith and Holman and Stauskas, and, and, and can reignite the fire. I wondered in print last night if this is the "Heat" reverting to its .530 mean of the last seven and one-half years. I would not be surprised in the least if they play .500 ball from Friday night to the end of the season. They lost their top seeding last night and only two games separate them from sixth place. Among those teams in the third through sixth slots are Philadelphia with MVP favorite Joel Embiid, the reigning champions Milwaukee, and the kryptonite Brooklyn "Nets."

Duncan Robinson has reverted to his mean mean. Last night he was 2/8 (2/8) on top of Friday night's 0-for-5. He got yanked having played only 27'. His four game stretch of excellence is now once again obscured by the new normal of 2/13. Nobody except Max Strus could shoot last night for Miami as nobody except now-you-see-him, now-you-don't Jimmy Butler could shoot for the team Friday night. The Duncan Robinson Issue is unique on this team. When he doesn't have his stroke he contributes little to nothing in other facets of the game: defense, play-making, rebounding, passing. He is purely a spot-up three shooter who cannot even create his own shot. When those don't fall he is not an NBA player, much less a starter. Caleb Martin has active, sticky hands and is an asset on defense even when he can't shoot. Tyler Herro has had two horrific shooting games also but nobody worries about Tyler. He doesn't start and he can do more when the shots aren't falling, he can create off the dribble, he can pass, indeed when he comes off the bench it is at the point guard position, and he is fast. With Duncan, you have him run around the three-point arc until he gets open. How hard is that to defend?

Last night was the first of a brutal road trip, six games in eleven nights. They're going to need all of their core guys playing at their peak and then voodoo from the grab bag additions. They got off to a brutal start in Boston.

Coup Parte Deux

Democracies are process-determinative, not result-determinative. Like jury verdicts election verdicts are legitimized by vote. Democracies are a closed system, that is, they have no democratic means to defeat a non-democratic threat, no democratic means to counter a threat of coup d'etat. Donald Trump was an illegitimate president for foreign influence on the 2016 election. Nonetheless, he was legitimized as president by election results which were not challenged by proponents of democracy. They didn't know how; they had no experience in turning back a threat from undemocracy. They would "beat him at the ballot box" in 2020, forfeiting four years. It is the nature of would-be dictators to accept democracy's legitimacy when they win and to reject it when they lose. Thus, although democracy did beat Trump at the ballot box in 2020 the would-be dictator did not accept that result of democratic process. He fought it in embarrassing and futile legal attempts and then by undemocratic means in the attempted coup of Jan. 6. Instincts are not susceptible to change and a dictator's actions always revert to his "instincts".

So Trump has never let up in his rejection of democratic process, in his reversion to his dictator's instincts and has now stated that if the authorities in Georgia and the Manhattan District Attorneys Office charge him with any crime he will again call on his dictatorship-worshiping supporters to take to the streets in Atlanta, New York City, and again on the Capitol to thwart legal process.
