China, Power.

How many Tibetan nuns and monks have self-immolated?  I don't know but a lot. The world pays attention and mourns. The Chinese government doesn't. Their policy hasn't softened toward Tibet. Ya Weilin's suicide will be for naught also. The government isn't going to account for his son's death because Ya killed himself. When the Tiananmen demonstrators went on a hunger strike and had to be rushed to hospitals to be saved the Center wavered. General Secretary Zhao Ziyang appeared among the demonstrators and made a tearful apology for failing the students. Then Zhao was ousted and Deng Xiaoping ordered the massacre.

Peaceful protest, as in Tiananmen, doesn't work with China. Either does self-directed violence, even self-murder. It does not work.
