Continuing our popular series, "Adding Insult to Injured France," President Hollande called it a war too, but I just heard that "massive" has been defined quasi-officially as vingt, "merciless" and "pitiless" are fleeing and ennui has immigrated to. A National Public Radio reporter said the twenty bombs (20!) dropped were for political cover, that the U.S. dropped twenty a few days before, and without giving it the absurd label of massive.
France hasn't the will. Hasn't had the will since World War I. They are terrified that if they fight back ISIS will...fight back-back. They will run, as they did from exploding light bulbs and fire crackers Saturday night. Or they will just not resist, as they did the Nazis. "Table for 150,000? Oui, oui, this way, Mein Fuhrer."
Today, the G20 in Antalya, Turkey ended. President Obama held a press conference. Pulled a name out of the hat (struggled pronouncing the name) and took the first question from a reporter for AFP.
"Friday night, 129 people were killed in Paris, ISIS has claimed responsibility, will your strategy now change."
President didn't bat an eye. Went on for ten minutes, didn't answer it, but betrayed no consciousness of the irony of a French reporter asking an American president if attacks in France were going to change the American strategy. Why don't you ask the president of France that, Jerome? Because they won't fight. Jerome knows that, Obama knows that, so it was perfectly natural to a Frenchman to ask the question and perfectly natural to the American president to answer it.
