Nothing trivial about five broken ribs and lung contusions but the origins even of deadly disputes are often embarrassingly silly. And Senator Rand Paul-Sir Leicester Dedlock was embarrassed to have the attack by the Tackling Doctor, Rene Boucher-Lawrence Boythorn public. From the New York Times:

Asked about long-leveled allegations that Mr. Paul had disregarded neighborhood regulations, Mr. Skaggs, who is also a former leader of the county Republican Party, said that the senator “certainly believes in stronger property rights than exist in America.”
So Dr. Boucher should have taken Dr. Senator Paul to court instead of sneak-tackling him from behind while the Victim was wearing ear muffs. If anything the silly origins of this blind (and deaf) blind side attack just make the injuries inflicted all the more outrageous. The Tackling Doctor ought to have the book thrown at him and that book ought include a chapter on felonies.
What yet there is no explanation for is the special abilities possessed by a 59 year-old poof anesthiologist to fracture five ribs and contuse the lungs of a 54 year old opthomologist. "High velocity severe impact" is still utter bullshit, even for Kentucky.
