As I write this I am standing on a trail, pretty near the entrance, of Dupont Forest, which is also the reason I write, for there is no sound. I have just left my daughter and her mother and have paused as test. No crunch of human footfalls, no voices; no bird song, not a chirp; not even the sound of wind rustling through the trees. No sound at all. I have never experienced this absoluteness anywhere else at any other time. It is uncanny.
