When a person says "I like you" and then goes on to critique you he doesn't really like you.
When a person says "You've probably heard a lot of talk that I don't like you" it's because that person has told other people he really doesn't like you.
When a person says "I like you; I know you pretty well" it means he knows you well enough to not like you.
When a person says to you "We're not that far apart"--Like a wife about a husband or Trump about Democrats--it means you and (s)he have irreconcilable differences.
