No Premier League side has ever not won the league when accumulating 90 or more points. At their current pace either Manchester City or Liverpool will become the first. With 7 matches left and getting an average 2.48 per match through 31 City project to 94 points. Liverpool, one point behind, 2.45 per through 31, project to 93.

All four English teams are still alive in the Champions League, the hemisphere’s super league, in the round of 16.

This season there is no stronger soccer league on earth than the English Premier League. And Liverpool and City are the two highest quality teams ever produced in one EPL season and two of the absolute best in all the world.
Man, some big ass scores in MLS today. Montreal made a negative impact in KC who unloaded an unsporting 7-1 barage.

Lafcadio knew the way to San Jose and laid a nickle to nil on the “Temblors.”

It is the worst possible thing that could happen to MLS with one club. Atlanta, the template for a New MLS is now winless in four games to start the season and are getting booed in Mercedes Benz.

Barr: Mueller Report Almost 400 Pages

Now, that is about as long as...Fine!

He also said that Mueller's office is scrubbing the report of non-disclosable material, like grand jury testimony, and should be available to all by mid-April! If Barr's going to release the whole thing, minus only the stuff he clearly cannot, then I have to believe his summary is going to hold up. In which event will I take IllegiTrump down? No.

...The Art of Chess.

Thursday, March 28, 2019

Sorry, we're all lawyers here: "The investigation did not establish that members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated..." is not the same as "The investigation established that members of the the Trump Campaign did not conspire or coordinate..."

Ooh, that quoted sentence is not even a full sentence, do you see that? The T is bracketed which means in the original it was "the," small case, which means it is a part of a longer sentence and should have been preceded with ellipses. "The" did not lead the sentence, the quoted portion is a clause of a longer sentence. Barr knows that, Barr's a lawyer. Jesus, Barr, you couldn't even quote us one whole sentence?

"Election interference activities" are certainly the nettle of the Mueller investigation but not the full scope. Remember Rosey's enabling memo said ~~and things naturally flowing from Russian election interference activities?

About anything else? Did Mueller write anything about lifting sanctions? Undermining sanctions? Remember Flim Flam Flynn? Did Mueller write anything about the Trump Campaign and American foreign policy with Russia? For example, making it kinder and gentler, like, you know, in a quid pro quo?

Did Mueller write anything about Trump "activities" with any other country? Saudi Arabia? Remember the Mueller interviews of Saudis? Do I remember correctly that members of the Mueller team travelled to Saudi Arabia (I may not.)? I remember distinctly the Saudi branch to the Russian tree.

However that may be, Mueller and his lawyers wrote the one--incomplete--sentence quoted in the Barr's two paragraph Cliff Notes summary of however many pages the report dealt with Russia and those lawyers wrote "The investigation did not establish," not that "The investigation established that...did not."

However, however: Can you prove a negative? Well...Yes. I have certainly read, hell, I have written close out memos stating, "The defendant did not commit a crime." You don't have to prove innocence--"exoneration"--but you damn sure can sometimes. That's what the Innocence Project does, right? Right.

But, and you will be relieved to know that this is my last Talmudic scholastic parsing--for tonight!--since Mueller's guys were all lawyers, for lawyers to write that "The investigation did not establish..." Establish? Yes, even lawyers in oral argument, in closing argument, will use "establish" synonymously with "proved," but that is loose speaking, "proved" is the legal term, "proved beyond a reasonable doubt," not "established," which is not a legal term and which pretty clearly means a lower standard than "proved beyond a reasonable doubt," that is the standard, and since this is a written report, and one that Mueller had been working on for months, for Mueller's lawyers to use a squishy non-legal phrase like "did not establish" suggests that they did not find evidence anywhere close to proof that Trump & Co. conspired or coordinated.

Mueller Report Exceeds 300 Pages, Raising Questions About Four-Page Summary

(NYT)

Over 300 pages. How much is that? I look at my bookshelf and pull down The Art of Chess as being about the right thickness. 373 pages. Mueller's report is probably not that long. I go for a thinner volume, Heart of Darkness. Whoa! Shot way too low. Only 231 pages. I see War and Peace. Ho ho ho. I think it took me like six months to read that book. How long is that thing? I guess 1200-1400 pages? Answer is!: 1455! Damn close! I once listened to one of The Teaching Company's lectures on literature. Michael Sugrue (sp?) was the lecturer. "What's War and Peace about?," some student asked another professor. The professor paused. How do you answer that question? His brain whirring the professor finally landed on, "It's about Russia." See how easily I can get distracted? Okay, back on topic again. As I Lay Dying. 261 pages. Damn font size and printing format. The Age of Innocence, 293. Gettin' closer. Tender is the Night. There it is! Tender is the Night is 315 pages long. The Mueller report is the length of Tender is the Night and Trump's Attorney General Cliff Noted to "It's not about Russia."

The Major League Baseball season has been canceled. There is just no interest.
Oh my goodness, City drew Tottenham in the Champions League. Ho ho ho. That’s bad luck for Spurs. We play them in the league in the remaining matches, too. Three times in the space of weeks. Hottsy Tottsy gonna be toast.
On the other hand I have been a devoted follower of Manchester City since the 2002/03 season. Never had such luck—since 2007! Those first five years...Oh my God. There was one year in particular the club really sweated out a relegation battle, and I with them. I had to give serious thought to whether I could continue with a club 4,300 miles away that just fell off the soccer map. Clubs playing in the Championship just disappear. Thank goodness I never had to put it to the test.

With Thaksin Shinawatra’s takeover in 2007 it was like when the Wizard of Oz movie changes from black and white to technicolor. And then “Frank” went back to Thailand and sold to Sheikh Mansour! Never had such luck with a sports team. It has been heaven since. City relieve my “Heat” ennui Saturday at Fulham. THANK YOU SHEIKH MANSOUR!

The Main Event

Ju know Orlando and Miami have only met once in the NBA playoffs? Been in the league together for 30 years, each has had some great eras, but those eras never collided or came close to colliding. 1997 was the only time they ever met in the playoffs. I remember that series, Penny Hardaway went insane and damn near stole it for Orlando. But Miami was a 2 seed and Orlando a 7. Hardly a clash of the titans. That's it!

Only in America, but tonight the Main Event in the NBA is Orlando (36-38) at Miami (36-37). “Heat” are -5. “Heat” will win. The Battle for 8th Place is NOW!
Huh. New Jersey lost in Portlandia last night. Double overtime, too. Take a lot outta ya, a double OT loss on the road will. Oh well, they have to fly cross country to play in Philly Thursday night so they have plenty of time to shake it off. Good luck, “Nyets”!

I am going to stick my skinny old neck out agayne and predict with a high degree of confidence that the Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons, at the moment in a 110-98 hole to Golden State at Oracle, will lose and will close the eve-en-ing one game ahead of Miami.

I note with some mirth admixed with a modicum of concern that the Charlotte “Queens” were victorious today and sit two games from 8th Place.

And I note with growing perplexity what the fuck is happening in Beantown as San Antone came to the Hub and rubbed one out on the Greenies 115-96 for a fourth straight L.

And with that there attorney’s summary of the evidence, which can be checked against primary sources, I bid you a nite, nite termite.

A.G. Summary of Mueller Report on Obstruction

Back to more important things.

That is the summary of Trump Attorney General William Barr. The only quoted portion attributed to Mueller is in the last clause of the last sentence. The rest of it is the A.G.'s interpretation. The quoted portion from Mueller is defensible, if barely. All of us start out innocent until proven guilty. Now, that is the standard for conviction by a jury in trial. Prosecutors do not have to presume us innocent. Overwhelmingly, they presume us guilty based on their exercise of prosecutorial discretion to accuse us of criminal conduct. The prosecutor's standard for charging someone is slightly different. They must subjectively believe he who he accuses committed the crime and he must make an objective determination that a reasonable jury could convict beyond a reasonable doubt on the evidence that he, the prosecutor, has amassed. If the prosecutor does not have the subjective faith than he, personally, must decline to prosecute the case in court. The case gets reassigned to a prosecutor who does believe. But the prosecutor must also meet the objective test regardless of subjective belief or lack of belief. Mueller writing "that he does not conclude that the President committed a crime" sounds like the objective test and that, in my judgment is where it should have been left. There is no legal point in appending "it also does not exonerate him." Prosecutors do not exonerate. They determine either, through both tests prosecutorial crimes which they believe in and which have a reasonable chance of being sustained by a jury at trial were committed, or they write, "evidence insufficient." I am reluctant to conclude that Robert Mueller III, august and above reproach, has put out a non sequitur worthy of lesser life forms like the prosecutors in the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office but that is what Mueller says. I will reserve further fast and furious fire until and if we ever get the full context of Mueller's report on this count. However, that lone quoted clause is not encouraging that my fire will be held. From an abundance of caution and iron will against an eruption of bile and F-bombs I do not address A.G. Barr's summary.

The obstruction charge is also not the Big Enchilada, it is the little limp peepy of the investigation. Trump has been cleared of conspiracy and cooperation with Russian interference in the 2016 election. How Robert Mueller did that I do not know, I am shocked, I have seen filed, and have filed myself charges as a prosecutor based on infinitely less evidence than what Mueller had on conspiracy with Russia, but but I do defer to Mueller on that immeasurably more serious charge. Any plausible case for impeachment had to be founded on the Big Enchilada, not the little limp peepy. On any charge worth caring about Trump is exonerated in my opinion. This pending receipt of further information. I remain locked and loaded.

Zionist Devils Vanquish Knights

Cuh-lose one. 77-76. Just ended.

Man, UCF had a three point lead with :45 left. The Zionist Devil himself made it a one point game with :14 left and had an and-one opportunity to tie it. He missed. But R.J. Barrett got the rebound for Duke! Argh! That is NOT supposed to happen! Somebody didn’t blox put for the “Knights” and Barrett put it back in with :11 left. Still PLENTY of time for UCF but they let three seconds run off before calling time out. STILL plenty of time and they took the game winning shot at the right time, :03, missed it, gave themselves time for a put back and MISSED THE TIP IN! OHHH my heavens, that is a heart breaker for Central Florida. They had the opportunities, lordy did they have the opportunities. The play-by-play of the last few seconds reads like it was an instant classic of a finish that will be talked about and replayed for years and years...but I didn’t see the game. Maybe the write-up will be different. (7:35 pm)

Oh my God, they got to the rim on the penultimate shot.(7:35 pm) Oh no, he did not. My 20/400 vision did me wrong. He did not get to the rim, it was a runner and leaner, a tough but not desperation shot at all, a decent shot. (8:31 pm) I’ve just watched the highlights. ESPN has it that B.J. Taylor missed a “Jumper” at :03. Taylor did jump of course but it was not a jump shot, he drove right to the rim! Wrong. (8:31 pm) I thought it was going to fall.

That’s a pretty good look (8:40)

And it did almost fall.

How did that not go in? The Lid. That’s Dawkins coming in at left for the tip if it doesn’t. (8:40) When it didn’t I swear I don’t know how Aubrey Dawkins tip didn’t fall. (7:35)

Dawkins tip

Get the fuck out of town (8:40) He was right there! He tipped it just right! It was like there was an invisible lid on the basket.(7:35) All of that is right. (8:31) Oh my God, I feel so sorry for UCF.
I’ll tell you what, whichever NBA team gets young Zion Williamson, they’re getting a star. He will immediately and dramatically increase that team's number of wins. He is that good. He is for real. He is unreal.

ATTORNEY GENERAL WILL NOT PURSUE TRUMP OBSTRUCTION CHARGES

MUELLER REPORT: NO TRUMP CONSPIRACY OR COORDINATION WITH RUSSIA

121-119 (36-37)

Close one all the way in D.C. Miami won the 4Q and thus the game. Like to see that. Like to see winning the 4th especially on the second of a back-to-back on the road. This wasn't about match ups good or bad. Grit, determination. Mental toughness. Last night had to be a total bummer. "What's in it for us if we try tonight against Washington? A four game sweep by the "Bucks." Can't beat that team. Can't beat that team no how, no way." How do you not think like that? Because "Heat Culture" won't let you, at least not in March.

That game about eliminates the "Bullets." They are 6 1/2 games behind Miami and Miami occupies the last street in Middletown that is Playoff Way. D.C. is a bad team, firmly ensconced in the Lottery Project, but there is bad and then there's Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland and New York, collectively No Hope City, the only four teams in the Least with under 30 wins. "Projectiles" are right at 30 on 11th Place.

Orlando won last night, Miami tonight, the two have played an equal number of games and Miami has a one game lead.

I like what Eric Spoelstra did tonight, going back to the starting five that he used last night and for the last several games, Olynyk, Jones, Jr., Adebayo in the middle, Waiters and Richardson on the wings. Those are going to be the starters and the rest yinz just accept it and like it. I do blame Spoelstra for not settling on a starting lineup before the 60th game or so. It destabilized the roster, caused hard feelings, produced uncertainty, it did no good, only bad, and there was no reason for it. He's had these guys for three years now.

I don't like who Miami won the game with. That would be Dwyane Wade. He scored a team high 20 on 9/16 shooting, had 9 rebounds and 5 assists in 28 minutes. He's Miami's best player and I don't like it because what are they going to do next year when they don't have him. This could be as good as this team gets!

D-Wade was not alone. Dion had 19 on 7/13 (4/9) in 27". Bam Adebayo was pretty close to a triple double tonight, he had a tremendous game 16 points, 11 rebounds, 8 assists, 4 blocks. Goodness, what a game the second year guy had. He's Eric's center, Hassan only played five minutes off the bench tonight.

J-Rich had a good game, played a team high 39", 18, 6/12 (2/7), 5 assts.

Queen Charlotte beat Boston tonight down there. That's two in a row for the "Buzzers." I don't know what's wrong with Boston. They had a 9 point lead after 3 and got BLOWN OUT in the 4th 35-19 to lose by 7. Blown out in the 4th by Charlotte. Inexcusable by Boston, tremendous win for Charlotte. Charlotte is not out of it! They are 2 1/2 behind Miami with a game in hand. Not great but not out of it.

New Jersey won at LAL last night, play in Rip City Monday night. "Nyets" are on 7th Place 1 1/2 games ahead of Miami who have a game on them. 7th Place is reachable for Miami. Can they grasp what is within reach? Who would Miami play if they finished 7th? Tonto. Not gonna beat them either.

Goddamn Zollner Pistons are leading Portland 99-96 half way through 4Q out there. Portland's a goddamned good basketball team, they've won 7 more games than Fort Wayne playing in the Big Boys League out West. They are +2 on Miami in 6th pending tonight's finish. They'll either be + 2 1/2 or +1 1/2 and will have a game in hand. Who...? Philly. We did that last year. It didn't work out.

No matter where Miami realistically finishes they're looking at a 4-zip or 4-1 K.O. out of the 'Loffs in the first round. Congratulations. But I'm not ending this post on such a cynical note. Tonight's win over a decently bad team on the road, on the second game in two nights, with the same starting five and a predictable and productive rotation, with young Bam Adebayo's tremendous game, winning the game in the 4th, that is as inspiring as a resident of 8th Place gets. Sincere congratulations. Sincerely impressive.

Good night.

Saturday, March 23, 2019

Jeez, the "Heat" are playing tonight, too. Too many games, too, too many games. It's a tight game in the District, 71-67 late in the 3Q. Dion and J-Rich high for MIA; J Green leads all with 17 so far.

Did you hear the last stronghold of IS was captured this week? Credit Trump.

Did you hear Bolton the Walrus announced on Tuesday via Twitter (where else?) that  Mnuchin the Munchkin's Treasury Department had imposed new "Important actions" against the DPRK? That,

"Everyone should take notice and review their own activities to ensure they are not involved in North Korea’s sanctions evasion."

That Trump then tweeted (Why don't we just make fucking Twitter the new official lingua franca of diplomacy, huh?) on Wednesday,

"I have today ordered the withdrawal of those additional Sanctions!"

Which makes Trumpie guilty of being "involved in North Korea's sanctions evasion," don't it?

That the Pillsbury Dough Girl susplained,

“President Trump likes Chairman Kim, and he doesn’t think these sanctions will be necessary.” ?

Ju hear that? Yeah, that's pretty funny. Yeah, I'm in favor of harvesting at least one Walrus. Yeah, Trump is a fascist dictator who attempts to rule by fiat and personal whim. No, I don't like fascist dictators like Kim and Trump nor rule by fiat and personal whim (I'm a Leftist.). Credit Trump. Whatever works, baby! The Korean peninsula is more pacific than it has been since fucking 1953. I am utterly convinced that the "new" Kim Jong un poses no threat to the peninsula, to near neighbors nor to distant peoples, namely Trump's subjects in Amerika 2.0. I am as convinced that the bromance between Kim and Trump is responsible for this "new" Kim. Kim can change! He can go right back to the bad old Kim! I am convinced, etc. that he don't wanna. That if Trumpie just gives him a bro hug he'll be fine and the rest of us will remain happily un-irradiated. Trump did the right thing. I, Happy Leftist, credit Trump for this.
Man, that is a distressing photo, is it not? Looks like the Costa Concordia! And that’s a bad look.

That is the Viking Sky which looks like it’s about to dip into the Viking Ocean, off the coast of Norway. Looks are not deceiving in this case, the Viking Sky sent out a mayday signal that it had lost propulsion, was being battered in heavy winds and seas and must needed be evacuated. There are 1,300 people on board and helicopters have to evacuate them one by one. (:o?) Which does not sound like a promising plan. Last I read about 100 had been airlifted to safety (Imagine that trip alone in the bucket up to the chopper in that wind. Weee!) and the ship had regained partial propulsion.

All of which is significant but mere prelude to a larger point. There are so many problems with cruise ships! Sexual assault of passengers by crew, various losses of power, outbreaks of contagious disease where hundreds are sickened, Schettino’s captaining the ship, all pointing in my mind to the Big Problem: Because they sail the Seven Seas they are not really under the jurisdiction of any government when they do. They do not pay taxes, I do know that. The Costa Concordia and the Viking Sky founderings happened so close to shore that Italy and Norway respectively could rescue the innocent and prosecute the wrongdoers if it comes to that. But are there national health standards that can be enforced? Ship safety standards? There must be but they must be international maritime regulations, a lowest common denominator. Why do you think so many ships are flagged in Liberia? Do you have confidence in the laws of Liberia?

The undersigned has never been on a cruise and don’t intend to, ever.

All Eyes on SDNY

We, the proletariat, may never get more than the barest glimpse of the Mueller report. What we know now, barely 24 hours after the report’s submission, that no “new” charges are recommended, will undoubtedly be augmented some when Congress gets a “summary” but that’s Trump’s Attorney General’s summary. Wanna bet that isn’t going to be a wholly accurate summary? And isn’t it beside the point at this point? House Speaker Pelosi has already stated that she will not advance an impeachment motion.

One reads today, one has read for awhile, prominently from the prominent mouth of Chris Christie, that what IllegiTrump has most to fear is prosecution by the United States Attorney Office in Manhattan, formally the Southern District of New York.

That must be true since Christie is a former U.S. Attorney, the New York Times would not make so fundamental a mistake as this but I do not see how that can be true. The Constitution says pretty plainly that the remedy for presidential criminal behavior is impeachment. The Constitution on this point has been construed to mean that a sitting president cannot be charged criminally in the federal courts, and that has been the policy of the Justice Department for about twenty years. SDNY is a federal prosecutor’s office ergo what the fuck does Trump have to fear from SDNY? I don’t get it. If Christie, the Times, the Learneds mean that Trump can be charged after he leaves office, that is the driest of humps.

All of that Constitution stuff does NOT absolutely preclude a sitting president from being charged in the State criminal courts and that was precisely why the Learneds were so excited when Mueller involved the State of New York Attorney General’s Office in the investigation. However, the undersigned unlearned is clear in his mind (which isn’t saying much, he allows!) that “principles of federalism,” the doctrine of the “superior sovereign,” maybe other such things that he is unlearned about, would preclude criminal prosecution of a sitting president by the inferior sovereign when the superior ain’t allowed to do it. I mean are you kidding me, he couldn’t be charged with Treason in the federal courts but could be charged with, I don’t know, Rape, by some local D.A.? I don’t think so.

However it may be in the State courts, I utterly fail to see what Trump has to fear from SDNY. Somebody will explain it to me I trust.
Miami “Heat” currently sit a precarious 1/2 game ahead of Orlando, on 8th Place, the last street in Middletown before the Lottery Project slum. Miami is favored to stay on 8th Place and thus to make the playoffs. In which they will face Milwaukee “Bucks” who will beat them like a drum, likely in four straight games, in five (one Miami win) at most. Miami has NO CHANCE to win that series.

Which prompts the following consideration: Would it not then be better for Miami to not make the playoffs? To start U-Has and R. Anderson, for example, to save wear and tear on the better players (if such a distinction can be made)? To “tank,” in reality? The allure of a tanking strategy is to get a 40% shot at a top four draft pick whereas 8th Place residents have no shot. The likely result is no change in draft position from a team’s reverse order finish in the standings whether that is 7th, 8th or 9th place. Tanking offers the allure of hope to this Miami franchise, which is otherwise locked into Middletown for one more season, of immediate and dramatic improvement from the skirt of Lottery Project and a bypass of Middletown to the Upper Least Side.

Hope is alluring; this hope is alluring; Riley isn’t doing it. Tanking is against everything “Heat Culture” means if it means anything at all. Tanking is corruption. You’re trying to lose. It is against the competitive spirit of sport which makes sport so compelling to follow. The “Heat” will not tank, which moots the consideration from reality based discourse. The consideration, “Should Miami tank tank” is left to the classes in metaphysics and ethics offered on sports talk radio. “Manny from Hialeah, you’re on the air.”

I don't think...Have the "Heat" been at .500 this year? I don't know. Have they ever been even one little peepy game over .500? I'm not full 100 but I don't stink so. I think that has always been the Wall they hit...Oh! They were 3-2. That was the last time. Just checked the game-by-game. They were at .500 December 3, 16-16, then lost to Tonto at home by two. But that's the closest they got. Let's see...Got right back to .500 the next game 'gainst Cleve, then lost to Minnehaha at home. Another game against Cleve...WE WERE. We beat Cleve to go 18-18 then beat the "Bullets" to go 19-18. Wow. Arright, well I was wrong. We also got above .500 on January 12, 21-20. We then fell off the Wall and over the cliff losing the next 13 of 18. Ooh. Haven't sniffed .500 since till tonight. Don't sniff it no mo'. Ran into the Greek Freak Wall tonight. Too bad, we got the "Bullets" next again. Coulda gotten over the Wall agayne. Coulda, shoulda, canta.

120-119 (35-37)

The problem is, we don't "match up" well with the "Bucks." It's not that we don't have talent parity with them! No! We just don't "match up" well with them. Kelly Olynyk does not "match up" well with Giannis; James Jefferson does not "match up" well with Giannis. That guy we got from PHX, R. Anderson, another goddamn PF, did not "match up" well with Giannis tonight. LeBron James, he would "match up" better with Giannis. I might "match up" better with that Greek mother-freaker than anybody the "Heat" have. I would match up well with Janis Joplin. I think I could take her one-on-one.

We’re getting KO’d. 54-43. Nobody can guard that freak. He’s got 20. K.O. is “countering” him with 6 points in 12”; JJ has 3 in 13. This is who we’re going to play in the ‘Loffs if we stay on 8th Place. Be a short series.

Could we play Charlotte sometime soon?
Thank you! (Damn if Eric didn’t take KO out and put JJ in :o) Giannis still at 11.
That fucking Greek motherfucker has 11 of Mil’s first 13. Who the fuck is guarding him? Try (Just a litle bit harder) K.O. No, Spoelstra take K.O. the fuck out. You’ve got power forwards coming out your ass. Put in JJ, put in HASLEM, put in SOMEBODY else.
Giannis Joplin has the “Buckets” first seven points but Miami’s Strength in Numbers (Uh-hem) gives them an early 10-7 lead.

Humboldt Broncos Truck Driver Gets 8 Years in Prison

Jaskirat Sidhu pled guilty in a makeshift courtroom in Melfort, Saskatchewan to causing the crash that killed 16 Humboldt hockey players on April 6, 2018. The Crown had asked for ten years.

”What’s it like to be free?”

The young white man sat down for the lunch next to one of the inmates, a large black man. The young white man was a social worker. With others he had brought the children of the inmates to the prison to see their fathers and mothers.

“What’s it like to be free?”

Long pause.

“It's hard to say." He paused again. "It's all I've ever known."

"It must be great."

"Yeah, I think it is."

Mueller Report Submitted to Attorney General

Thursday, March 21, 2019

The Miami "Heat" have been a more focused team since, I peg it at the trade deadline.

Eric Spoelstra has settled on a starting lineup and “a rotation" as it is called, the 7-10 most used players on the team. Players now have a good sense that they will play in a given game and about when in the game their number will be called. This site has previously excoriated Spoelstra for his tinkering with the starters and the rotation after two years with the same core group. Spoelstra should have had his rotations set at the start of this, the third season, not with one-third left in the third season. I unsay none of that criticism, I reiterate it.

The "Heat" off loaded two players on trade day, Tyler Johnson and Wayne Ellington. They had to take one player back, I don't even know the fucking guy's name he has played so little, if at all, for salary cap reasons. There is no rational explanation why getting rid of Johnson and Ellington and adding Emanon should have focused Spoelstra's mind and forced clarity on his player selection, but it did.

The players are more focused. And I don't think it is a consequence solely, even mainly, of Spoelstra's rotation clarity. You don't hear a peep out of the players now, never is heard a discouraging word, no  fuckin' this fuckin’ that post games from Hassan. Dion The Mouth Waiters has zipped it. Hassan has accepted his role coming off the bench in favor of Bam Adebayo and Dion, although made part of the starting five by Eric, is on a very short leash. In one recent game Dion failed to "rotate" on defense and the bad guy he was supposed to rotate onto made a three. Immediately, something like 3:52 into the 3Q, Eric yanked him and on the bench Dion sat for the rest of the frigging game. If Waiters bitched about it he didn't do it publicly. In this way (In this way only) the "Heat" this year resemble LeBron James' Cleveland teams. Oh my God, so much bitchin', moanin', throwin' soup at an assistant coach’n and then they'd switch and get serious for the playoffs.

Much more important than "shut up and dribble" the players are giving better effort. That is very recent, not just since the trade deadline, maybe only during this 8-2 win streak they're on. They are not as easily distracted, they stay on task more. There were so many games in the previous sixty or so when you read a write-up by one of the local pencils and you read about the players' lack of effort, a lack of "consistency," that was a near synonym used, especially at home! That's why the "Heat"'s record is so pathetic in 305. A lack of effort is the most infuriating thing for fans, coaches, management. Ira Winderman wrote it more than once, this team does not have the talent to win while loafing. If this team doesn't work hard every night then, as Pat Riley said in a commercial when he got here, they really have no chance.

Eric Spoelstra does his tinkering every damn year. Spoelstra's inability to settle on a "consistent" predictable rotation and this core group of players lack of consistent effort has fucked up the season to the point where Miami is scratching and clawing to hang on to 8th Place with no higher to go than 6th. Are Miami's players smart enough, self aware enough to realize this? Sheet, they're veterans man! They know damn well when they're going through the motions out there. And they also know they can't do that and win. Period there. They know.

Is it not though this way with every team in the NBA? It is, just about. Golden State had that 73-9 season where they didn't lose focus the entire year. The players wanted to break the record for wins. They then let wet willie-in', no practicin', coach firin' Cleve win three straight to win the CHAMPIONSHIPPPP! See what GS has done this year, especially at home? They're lost 10 games in Oakland so far (their last year there, too) and 12 on the road, ooh, BIG home court ad, and right now are moseying on through a 5-5 and sit a mere half game ahead of Denver atop the West. They've done some moseying their ownselves, the "Warriors" have. But the "Warriors" have got more talent than God, a permanent mansion on 1st Place is the "Warriors" natural position, is it not? This "core group" of "Warriors" is so freakishly good, maybe the greatest team all time, that they'd have to try not to win for anything much less.

This by way of explanation, not justification: The NBA has forever been plagued by moseying because there are so many damn games. Eighty-two is just a lot. Manchester City has lost focus this season too and their regular season is 38 games. City played 57 matches in all competitions during their All or Nothing year, 2017/18. In the same season Golden State played 103 games and that only because, except for the conference finals, they breezed through the playoffs 4-1, 4-1, 4-3, and 4-0. They would have played 110 if pushed to the limit. Too many and too much. The Miami "Heat" probably give no less effort than does Golden State. They are just not as talented. Their natural position, as is evident from their cumulative nearly three year 119-118 record is right around 8th Place.
I take it by the chanting outside in Little Israel that "Holi" is a Jewish holiday? Molotov.

In Like a Lamb, Out Like a Lion

“Miami usually plays its best basketball of the season in March, and it’s happening again. The Heat is now 112-59 in March during Spoelstra’s 11 seasons as head coach, and 27-15 in March and 93-100 in the regular season in all other months since the start of 2016-17.”

https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nba/miami-heat/article228168314.html#storylink=cpy

Miami Herald has some good stats on the “Heat” That’s interesting. The Herald is where I got the cumulative record with this core group, the best metric, imo.

Wednesday, March 20, 2019

My calendar says tomorrow is “Holi.” What the fuck is “Holi”? Not “Holiday,” HOLI”! What is “Holi”? Never fucking HEARD of “Holi” before.
Oh my God, now we play the fucking “Bucks.” The “Thunder,” the “Spurs,” now the “Bucks.” Where is that fucking game...I hope up there...Ha! It is. We gotta chance!
Dragic was team high with 22 but only 2 after 1H.

Bam (Bam! BAM! BAM! BAM!) had 15 rebams but only 4 2H.

D-Wait had a good game. I think he had 10 at HT, so he didn’t fade much: 18 on good shooting, 7/14 4/9 and had 5 rebounds and 4 assists. That’s a good game.

JJ had another productive outing: 13, 5, 4. I saw a minute and a half of highlights at HT and they included JJ poking the ball away and going in for the dunk. It was a veteran steal, canny. JJ still does not appear to have the explosion or the lift that he had pre-injury.

J-Rich had 25 but not “efficient” as they say now, poor shooting as they always have said, 6/16, 2/6, 5 and 4 in a team high 39”. Same with D-Wade: 11, 5/13, 1/2 in 20”.

Great team effort to get an important W against a solid club on the road. Disney beat NOLA as expected. “Heat” as close to 9th as they are to 6th, 1 1/2 games. BEST record in the Least now, 8-2, in last ten. The “Heat” is coming.

FT Miami 110 San Antonio 105

Road Warriors!

“Heat” oughta move to London.

120-118 (35-36 season).

Heat! Heat!! Heat!!!

Miami 62 San Antonio 47 HT

The Dragon—off the bench has 20 at the HALF. Bam has 11 rebams. But its Dragic, 7/8 4/5, who is killing SA.

Ah jeez, the “Heat” are in San Antone tonight. That is one of the games in hand we have on Brooklyn. And Nawlins is in Disneyworld. If the chalk writes by the end of the night MIA will be two games short of 7th and a little peepy half game, a half peepy, off 9th Place.

Damnedest thing about MIA though. The season’s almost over alright, so this isn’t a small sample size, the “Heat” have a better record out of 305, 17-16, than in 305, 17-20. They’re an outie. They’re a weirdo is what they are.

Why does no London based soccer team have London in its name?

Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, Fulham, West Ham, QPR, Crystal Palace—that’s just those in the Premier League (or who recently have been).

So I googled that question. Here are three answers:

“With these many clubs it will be injustice to citizens of London that a single club bears their name and represent them.”

“[When soccer clubs started forming] For a club to be named London FC, it needed representation from throughout London. That was almost impossible to happen as it was way easier to find youth in one locality itself. Else, various small clubs in London could merge to name themselves London FC. That again didn't happen because most of the London were well sustainable individually.”

In  the history there were never a club which represent the whole London in football.”

Oh, I see! There is no good reason. Manchester has two clubs with the city name. Liverpool has one. Birmingham. Newcastle. Fucking Norwich has a club with the city name. The town of Huddersfield has one. So, there is no law. Imagine the cachet if you bought a lower level club, say, AFC Wimbledon, and renamed it London FC?
FUCKing Excremento those worhless pieces of excrement, I was very badly mistaken about the “Nyets” last night. Damn if they didn’t come from 28 down to beat the “Kinks” 123-121. They reside on 7th Place in Middletown 1 1/2 games ahead of MIA. They have 9 games left to play, MIA has 12. MIA could tie them in W’s/L’s by winning their extra games but would lose on the head to head tie breaker, unless I am very badly mistaken.

Tuesday, March 19, 2019

Unless I am very badly mistaken the New Jersey Brooklyn "Nyets" are nyet going to win tonight either as they "trail" the Excremento "Kinks" 102-74...excuse me 102-78, at the end 3Q. This "Nyet" loss about which I am convinced beyond a reasonable doubt will move idle Miami to within a game and one-half of residence on 7th Place with one extra game to play.

The "Queens" got oomphed agayne tonight in Charlotte. They fall 3 games behind Miami with the same twelve games left to play. Fort Wayne of 6th Place in Middletown, losers to Cleveland yesterday, travel to Phoenix with a presumably rested Blake Griffin to play another franchise abortion. The Zollners are two ahead of Miami.

Monday, March 18, 2019

Fort Wayne had the capital idea to rest Blake Griffin tonight against the “Cadavers,” you know, so he would be “fresh” for the playoff run, and promptly lost the game. You can take the piston out of the Zollner but you can’t take the Zollner out of the Pistons...Guess where ol’ Fred Zollner finally cracked the piston? North Miami, Florida, 1982.

119-118

Uh, uh, uh...Whew! MIA went to OKC tonight and beat the “Thunder” 116-107. The two oldies, D-Wade and The Dragon won the game for the “Heat.” Wade played 33 minutes. He played like it was 2006 again: 25 points, 10/17 shooting. Dragic...Dragic was out of his fucking mind is what he was: 25 points on 9/17, 6/9 from range, 11 assists, 5 rebounds and delivered beer to your seats in only 29 points. “Beer guy! Some peanuts next time wooja?” Sick. K.O. had a great night, 18 (7/10) and 9.
Damn, even JJ played, and had a nice game!, 14 (5/8). As for the Future: The Future was bleak tonight. J-Rich, was 3/14, 1/5 for 9 in 40”, team high; he did have 7 ‘bounds and 6 assts. Bam was 8 and 7 in 30”. Hassan was a pygmy tonight: only played 5”, had 2 points, 4 rebs. J-Wins was out injured. The “Thunder,” wtf “Thunder”? Westbrook was a DNP-CD (?)... No, ESPN, Westbrook was suspended for his 16th T of the season, dumb bunnies ESPN.
The Charlotte Hornets, an NBA team playing basketball in the year 2019, scored 75 points on Sunday.

Jeez. Queen Charlotte...

How many times do those poor people have to play us? Didn't we just give her a good Ooomph last week? Well we did it again. The "Hornets" ran into the Miami buzzzz saw (do you get it?) agayne today in Miam-uh and i’tweren’t pertty agayne. One pernt 'Lotte lead after 1Q, tied after 2Q, 1 pernt Miami lead after 3Q. After that le deluge. "Heat" done run away and hid, 32-15 in the fourth for a 93-75 win. Miami remains at 8th Place, two games behind the "Nyets"--Who by the way did hold on to lose last night in Utah.--and one ahead of Borelando with two games in hand on both. Here's a weird stat fer ya. Miami is tied with the Zollner Pistons and the 7 Foot Sixers for best record in the Least over the last ten games, 7-3. (?) Is that not weird?

'Nother strange box score for Miami tonight. Drajic led with 19 points--as a reserve. D-Wade was second with 17 and 8--as a reserve. Bam, starter, was third with 16 and 9. And somehow when you add up all the other crap in the box score it comes out to 93. I don't know how they did that.
Zidane was the source of my first Zen moment in soccer. 2002 (Soccer fanatics already know). I was naked in bed with my girlfriend that afternoon (alright, too much information, alright.) She was sleeping (It was after. Alright!). And at that contented, sated time Zidane happened:

Jumped clean outta bed, I did. Woke my friendgirl up and everything.

It was Santiago Solari. Until today. It is now Zinedine Zidane, back for his third spell as manager of the club. I didn't think anybody could survive 4-1 to anybody in the Champions League at the Santiago Bernabeu. That'll get your ass fired all damn day and it did today.
Oh.
I cannot get over that Ajax win. And who is Real Madrid's manager and why?!
Liverpool played today? Shit! they did. In the league, too. Won at relegated Fulham 2-1. They go top of the league by two pernts with an extra game played over Manchester City. They are -6 in goal diff. Liverpool have seven matches left, City eight. It's gettin' to nut cuttin' time!

Everton beat Swine Chelsea amidst the Row Houses. Chelsea, man. Chelsea ain't doin' too good. They're sixth. Lordy, Chelsea is sixth. That's out of the Champs League, out of Europa, outta sight outta mind is Swine Chelsea.

Goddamned Premier League schedule, you don't know what's coming and who's playing. What a race this year, though. Liverpool and City have been battling the whole year--and those are two great teams, 'Pool and City, great teams--and the race for the Champs League spots, four points separate #3 Spurs and sixth Chelsea: four points, four teams. Fo! Fo! They're even starting to write of a "big six;” for years its was a big four, now it's a big six. Great league. Goddamned schedule.

Aye, Yye Yye Yye Ajax!

Ajax, overcoming a 2-1 loss in Amsterdam in the first leg went to Madrid and BLEW OUT Los Blancos 4-1 to advance 5-3 in the Champions League. It is the heaviest defeat for Real Madrid in European competition ever. CONGRATULATIONS AJAX!
Pitt did not make the NCAA tournament.

I may be very badly mistaken tomorrow morning but as the sandman cometh now the Brooklyn “Nyets” are nyet going to extend their lead over Eighth Place resident Miami on accounta the aforesaid “Nyets” are getting crushed by Giant Steps in Salt Lake City 83-64 end 3Q.

Oh! Man U knocked out of the same FA Cup quarterfinals that Man City almost was. That is two losses in ten days since their incredible win in Paris in the Champions League. They had not lost a match before that since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over, back to December 16. Oh well.

Thank you for your news stories.
In last night’s meltdown Miami blew a 20 point halftime lead and lost. In the aftermath both Justise Winslow and Josh Richardson said the same thing: that when bad things start happening the team gets demoralized and the bad things cascade on them. Typical for inexperienced players. It rang true.

Today, by contrast, Manchester City, a team who has been there before, many times, fell behind 2-0 to an inferior side, Swansea, in Wales, in the FA Cup quarter final. It was 2-0 until the 69’. Bernardo Silva then scored to make it 2-1. And then, in the 78’, who else, Aguerooo!, on a PK that, get this, was an own goal because it went off the Swans goalkeeper’s heel (Ever see an ownsie on a PK? Me neither.). Then...well, you can write the ending.

It’s all a matter of inches and of milliseconds, sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good, all them things. But the difference in competition is also in the competitors minds. Are they confident? You have to have the talent! Talent to hit the high note, make the shot, score the goal, and the confidence, borne of experience, to try. Nobody in the NBA is more confident in his abilities than is Dion Waiters. But Dion is more confident than God intended him to be with the talent He gave him. Last night Miami had neither the talent nor the confidence to hold a twenty point (twenty points!) lead. Today...Do you think Sergio Aguero ever thought “We’re going to lose”? After QPR 2012? The advantage that City have whenever they play anybody in Britain, including Liverpool, in any competition is talent plus experience.

T + E = C and T + C = Greatness.
Don’t forget to turn your clocks ahead one hour tonight. You’re welcome.

118-119

MIA only led by 20 at the half. Not enough. Not against the team with the best record in the league. Went MIA in the 3Q; MIL got the 20 down to uno entering the 4th. Yeah, outscored Middletown 37-18 in the quarter. And then, in the 4th, continued doing what Upper Least Siders do to uppity teams living on 8th Place, ran away from them and drew up the draw bridge, 34-18, for an easy 113-98 final.

The Zollner Pistons won, erasing MIA's obliteration of them the other night. Fort Wayne and Brooklyn back to a three game lead over MIA. Borelando won last night, the "Queens" tonight so one step forward, one step back, such is life in Middletown. MIA with a little peepy one game lead over those latter two.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, MIL's alpha buck had an alpha game, 36, 16, 9, 2, and 3. Kate Middleton chipped in 21.

J-Wins had 20 (8/16,3/7), J-Rich a quiet 11 (5/10, 1/1). Bam and Whiteside combined won the center position if there were positions in basketball which there ain't, 24 and 22 to 2 and 6 for MIL C B. Lopez. It was at PF, where G-Man plays where MIL fucked the "Heat" in the ass, Giannis and E. Ilyasova combined for 48 and 21 and TKO'd MIA's only PF on the night, K.O. who had 10 and 7. That'll do it. That'll do it all day long. Long day for MIA.

118-118

Holy SHIT! The “Heat” burnt the “Pistonians” to a crisp.  Just fucking cracked the “Pistons” and beat them over the head with it. 108-74. 108-74? 108-74! Sent those mother fucking “Zollner Pistons” packing back to Fort Wayne. Outscored them 33-8 in 3Q. :o

It’s a weird box score; you’d think one or two guys just went off but nobody went off. The "Heat" were just on. Miami had seven guys in double figgers. That’s really a weird box score, J-Wins was team high with 16. YoungWhiteside (of course) led with 11 ‘bounds. K.O. didn’t KO anybody, only had 9 pernts. Spo played 11 guys, even U-Has. Only JJ was MIA. Miami still residing on 8th Place, but saving their allowance for a move up to 7th, two games back of FtW. “Heat” also now two ahead of Borelando on 9th.

“Heat,” by God, you pleasured me tonight, “Heat.” I thank you.

Well, if you knew anything, “Rick”...Actually, that’s a really good question.
“Heat”: little pleasure tonight, s'il vous plait.
An incredibly impressive 3-1 win today for Liverpool at Munich.

I have always seen Pep Guardiola as a straight talker (call me naive). Pep said before today's match that he wanted Munich to win. I coached there, you know. I'm loyal. Okay! That makes some sense. But did Pep really say that because of his love of Ol' Bayern? Or, did Pep say that to spur on 'Pool knowing that 'Pool is not as deep as is Manchester City and that they are going to get stretched pretty thin by advancing in the Champions League...and at the same time contesting City for the EPL title? Call me a cynic: I think the latter.

College Admissions Scandal

Wealthy moms and dads have been arrested, criminally arrested, on "conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud" for paying whomever needed to be paid to get their kids into elite colleges and universities. I fail to see the crime here. If a private institution, say University of Southern California, wants to charge $50,210 per year for tuition (And they do: That was USC's tuition for 2016/17.) there is no crime. If they say to wealthy...the wealthiest of parents, "Know what? For you, for your kid, $100,000.," where's the crime? Schools offer scholarships to kids of less well off families all the time. Is that a crime? True story: the Harvard football coach said to my father "Why didn't you tell me Ben was applying? I could have gotten him a football scholarship." I have never played a down of football in my fucking life. Was that a crime? When USC offers football scholarships to five star high school players are they bribing the less intellectually gifted? Cheating the more intellectually gifted? Of course not. Was it a crime for a law school to offer my daughter a $56,000 per year scholarship? Since colleges, law schools, med schools, etc. are allowed to offer scholarships why aren't they allowed to soak the rich? I fail to see the crime here.

Uncle Benny does not look right, I know that's right. I didn't know Uncle Benny but, on this photographic evidence I find confirmation for my mother's verdict. This was from a few generations ago though so nothing about Uncle Benny not being "right" was passed on to his descendants.
