TRUMP DEPLOYS NATIONAL GUARD TO CALIFORNIA, NEW YORK, WASHINGTON STATES

Trump also:

-Dispatched the military hospital ships Mercy to Los Angeles and Comfort to New York City to relieve the load on local hospitals.

-Confirmed New York Gov. Cuomo's earlier announcement that the Federal Emergency Management Act (FEMA) would supply four large federal medical stations with 1,000 beds for New York;

-Announced that FEMA would install eight large federal medical stations with 2,000 beds for California;

-Announced that FEMA would provide three large federal medical stations (2,000 beds) and four small federal medical stations with 1,000 beds for the State of Washington.

-Declined once again to invoke the Defense Production Act to require industry to manufacture emergency items such as ventilators and masks that are in short supply. Trump agrees with conservatives that the federal government should not be ordering private industry what to do.

All but the last are, by my lights, superb actions, silver bullets targeting specific needs, in contrast to the $1.8 trillion stimulus bill Trump submitted to Congress which, like the Federal Reserve lowering interest rates to near zero percent, will not, as the Fed's action did not, increase economic activity with so much industry shuttered and 25% of Americans following government directives to stay at home. This was the view at 5:46 p.m. on a brilliant Sunday afternoon on one of only three East-West arteries leading to Miami Beach. Empty. Nobody out.

Democrats in the Senate blocked the Trump stimulus package tonight. The solution to the economy clearly is to defeat the Trump epidemic first and quickly.

Trump is an old man, mentally unwell, and not in command. At today's news conference the New York Times described him:

As Mr. Trump detailed federal activities, he at times repeated facts and appeared halting as he described a complex list of facts and figures in the millions.
