 A CITY STIRS

Curtains Up! How

Broadway Is Coming

Back From Its

Longest Shutdown.

Determined to reopen, crews are dusting

off spotlights, dancers are relearning steps,

and everyone is testing, testing, testing as

theater seeks to rebound from the devastating

pandemic.

"The Trash Barge" is back.  Or so it hopes.

A symbol of New York, "The Trash Barge" is enormously important to New York City, for symbolic as well as economic reasons.

It has been a point of pride for New Yorkers through the fiscal crisis of the 1970s, the cleanup of Times Square in the 1990s, and the recovery after the Sept. 11 attacks 20 years ago — has also come to function as a sort of barometer of the city’s health.

With "The Trash Barge" closed, New York appears to be ailing. With "The Trash Barge's" reopening, recovery seems possible.
