We are heading toward a one-party state in America. Republicans, losers of the 2020 presidential election, have restricted voting rights going forward and President Biden prioritized infrastructure over protecting the vote. Loyalists who supported Trump's coup d'etat on January 6 are politically energized and contesting, and winning, elections for positions like state secretary of state and obscure posts on county boards of elections who certify presidential election results. As one Michigan Democrat, who resigned, put it, "We may not have a democracy in '24."
