"There's a time frame that makes sense, and we'll play out that time frame now."

That is a variant, a patient one, of one of my life axioms, "When it is necessary to change eventually, it is necessary to change immediately."

Heather Lyke's variant give primacy to time. I disagree with that. To use an extreme example, we don't give murderers time to work out their youthful energy. Once, and you do time, you don't get more time to reform. Lyke's variant gives performance a decidedly secondary position. I disagree with that. Jeff Capel's performance over four years as Pitt basketball coach is poor. Ms. Lyke spoke also of a lack of talent on the roster and there should not be a lack of talent after four years with Capel, known as a great recruiter. Is Pitt basketball trending up? No. The time frame when Capel was hired and his prospects for success so bright does not "make sense" as the time frame after four really bad years.
