Milley’s testimony Kinzinger pointed to are interesting for another reason: They spotlight that Trump also ordered an immediate withdrawal from Afghanistan, which didn’t happen amid resistance from the military and his advisers. Milley said the abrupt withdrawal from Afghanistan that Trump wanted by Jan. 20, 2021, would have been “catastrophic” and “a debacle” — “the same thing President Biden went through.” After the chaotic U.S. withdrawal in August 2021, Trump has criticized Biden, saying that would never have happened under his leadership.
