The Liz Truss bust is unnerving for an American. We have borrowed so much from Britain. Our Revolution was to "perfect" British constitutionalism. Our political campaigns mirror the other. They are the archetype of competent, good government. And so their PM lasts six weeks? What is this, Rome upon Thames? Has a transplanted South American banana tree borne fruit upon England's mountains green? How could the Tories have chosen Liz Truss? I know that BoJo was very popular among Brits, that Trump endorsed Brexit and even had one of the Brexit architects campaign with him. But Brexit and BoJo victory erected on a foundation of lies alienated Britain from much of America and of course from Europe. And then Trump "won." Now a critical mass of American voters don't rate preservation of American democracy as high in their list of concerns as inflation. There has been an unraveling of the sober, sound, electorate of "the English-speaking peoples."
