Looking back on my posts last night: Indy led by 8 with 2:24 to go and lost the fucking game. That’s difficult, not impossible, as they proved, but it’s not easy to lose a game when you’re up 8 with 2:24 to play.
There are six 24-sec possessions in 2:24. Indy got three of them. That’s 72” out of 144” with the ball. So in the pure case, to lose an 8-point lead Indy not only couldn’t score, but had to do worse than not score. They had to fuck up, shorten their time in possession by turning the ball over to Beans, getting fouled and clanking the free throws, stopping the clock by fouling Beans, etc. And then Beans had to score eight points on their three possessions, make two treys and one two-point shot in the normal case. Indy had to play no effective defense in Beans’ 72”. Indy did worse than that! Beans outscored them by eleven in 144 secs.
-Brown turd made a two exactly at 2:24 to make it Indy +6.
-Turner missed with 110” left.
-Hatem Tatum made a trey 9” later, 101” to play.
-Green White then fouled Numbnuts who made both FTs. Indy +5 with 86” to play!
-Horford made a trey. Indy +2, 72” left.
-Siakam missed a layup, 49”.
-Holiday made a layup tying the score, 38.2”, and Seeuckim fouled him! Holiday made the freebie and Beans had the lead 112-111, 38.2”.
-After a “Pacers” TO Numbnuts missed, 33.1”.
-“Celtics” called TO 25.1”.
-TATUM MISSED 10”, Numbnuts reb 7.1”! INDY WAS GOING TO GET THE FINAL SHOT TO WIN!
-BUT NO! Holiday stole from Numbnuts 3.1”!
-Siakam int. foul 1.1”; Holiday makes two, Beans +3.
-Numbnuts misses trey, 0.1”.
Quite the accomplishment by Indiana. It had all the necessary ingredients for a DISASTER. I’m sure they recognize their achievement.
