Paper Moon, Sargent Screenplay Sept. 1, 1972, cont.

A significant difference!

Screenplay:

"Love".

Movie:

No "Love".

Hmm. Hmm, hmm, hmm. An intentional, key change. But why? To keep paternity exquisitely ambiguous? I don't think omitting "Love" from the movie accomplishes that. From the movie, she clearly came to love him, whether he was her father or not. The screenplay describes her repeatedly as "cold", "hard", "all business" at the beginning. Now, near the end, the screenplay has her writing "Love" on the photo and the movie omits "Love".
