Break, Not Bend.

The China-watch universe is aflame by Bend, Not Break, the memoir of Ping Fu, a prominent Chinese-American businesswoman. The conflagration has made it into The New York Times. Ms. Fu claims, inter alia, that during the Cultural Revolution Red Guards forced her to watch as a school teacher was "quartered by four horsemen on a soccer field."

Drawn and quartered?  By four horsemen?  Really? Was one of them on a pale horse, too?

Bullshit.

That is too medieval, too European, to pass the smell test for credibility.  Chinese had their own ingenious methods like death by slicing, they didn't have to borrow from 15th century England. That did not happen. No teacher was drawn and quartered by four horsemen on a soccer field.
