Florida breaks record for new daily Covid cases for third time this week
Above even Big Round Numbers, Americans jump up and down and grab their genitals in excitement over "new records." It's our mother's milk, laced in Florida with crack.
Do the media have to lie to make us look worse? We didn’t break any record this week, not according to CDC data anyway. This article bases it's irresponsible lede on the 23,903 new cases reported to CDC on April 6. That is not a record. The single day record is the 30,531 during the Trump Plague on Jan. 2, 2021. April 6 is 7k+ fewer than the all time daily high. The seven-day daily average of cases was set on August 6 at 19,250 average per day over the last seven days. The 7-day average daily has set all-time records Aug. 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. The 7-day average is for more reliable than the daily numbers and NBC could have reported those records and been perfectly accurate. But it went for the highest daily number because that is what grabs Americans. It just has the drawback of being clearly incorrect.
Deaths in Florida have been up five of the last six iterations of the seven-day average and peaked, temporarily, no doubt, on Aug. 5 at 90, before losing two victims of DeSantis Man on the 6th to 88. That is a record, both 88 and 90 are records! The media could have reported those records but 88? 90?--those numbers lack sex appeal. 88 and 90 as records don't give Floridians wood compared to the immensely larger number of average daily cases, which is misreported as the single day record.
Journalism in the Asshole state is consistent with being located where it is. The single day daily death record was 199 on August 5. "One hundred ninety-nine black balloons," why isn't that catchy enough for them?
All to say, the media is going to report, wrongly if it helps their readership, accurately if it makes no difference, and it's going to shoe-horn in "record" if they must mix apples and carburetors to get it.
We already know we're the asshole. That's very irresponsible and fear-mongering of the media but if it bleeds it leads. We have plenty of legitimate fear with which to contend, we don't need lies.
