Professor Bailyn, 93 years old today, is the foremost historian of early America in his or anybody else's lifetime. I first read The Ideological Origins of the American Revolution as a graduate student and it has stayed with me for 37 years. (In the intervening 37 years I have read The Barbarous Years so it wasn't only Origins.) Professor Bailyn has taught at Harvard for 62 years! God bless him.
