The people of America pursue their happiness through the vehicles of two major political parties, the Democrats and the Christian Falangists. The executive (president) is a Democrat. Democrats are also in the majority in the "upper" legislative chamber, the Senate. The Christian Falangists, colloquially known as the Grand Old Phalanx (GOP) control the "lower" chamber, the House of Ill Repute. The parties cannot agree on a budget and so the government has been (partially) shut down.
This is the government that the American people want.
It is also the government of "Goliath" that the world gets for the American people pursue their happiness worldwide. The soul is a mutable thing so the soul of America surely will change. However, the soul of this America, which is inflicted upon the rest of the world, is a lying, spying, cheating, greedy, predatory, neo-liberal capitalist, punk-ass. America has crowned itself King of the punk-asses.
It is in this context that we make the case for glee today for the government shutdown will at least slow Goliath. Temporarily. Money is his mother's-milk. Without spending money, he weakens. The shut-down will also, allegedly, hurt the American economy generally, $2 billion worth per CBS. If true, that is how the King can be brought to his knees for the economy is the fuel for his rapacious engine. American "influence" in the world is exquisitely sensitive to the economy. When the economy gets the sniffles, the King gets the flu. Influenza, less influence for the world's Goliath, the King of the punk-asses. The case for glee.
